Jaguars sign wide receiver Jason Hill, Marcedes Lewis signs franchise tender

The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed wide receiver Jason Hill to a contract, and Pro Bowl tight end Marcedes Lewis signed his franchise tender.

Hill, 6-0, 202, was claimed off waivers by the Jaguars from the San Francisco 49ers on November 17, 2010. He was originally selected by San Francisco in the third round of the 2007 draft, the 76thpick overall.  He has played in 40 games with three career starts and has made 51 receptions for 661 yards and five touchdowns.

Last season Hill played in the final six games for the Jaguars and finished with 11 receptions for 248 yards and one touchdown.  He averaged 22.5 yards per reception including a career-long 48-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter on Dec. 12 against the Oakland Raiders.  Hill caught four passes for a career-high 77 yards in the home finale against the Washington Redskins.

In 2009, Hill played in 11 games for San Francisco and finished with nine receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns.  Both of his touchdowns came on Nov. 8 against Tennessee.  He had a career-high 30 receptions for 323 yards and two touchdowns along with 17 special teams tackles in 2008.

Lewis led the team with a career-high 10 touchdown catches in 2010 along with 58 receptions for 700 yards. He became the first tight end in franchise history to be voted to the Pro Bowl.  The 10 receiving touchdowns tied a single-season franchise record and he recorded two touchdowns in three different games.  In addition, his 10touchdowns tied for the most among NFL tight ends. His 700 receiving yards ranked second in franchise history among tight ends.

Lewis, a first round draft pick in 2006, has 181 career receptions for 2,224 yards and 17 touchdowns.  The 17 receiving touchdowns are the fourth-most in Jaguars history while his 2,224 receiving yards are the second-most among tight ends.
