Mock draft tracker 9.0: Tight at the top

Mock Draft 9.0 Thumb

JACKSONVILLE – The tag has altered things at the top.

That's how draft analysts sees it anyway, with the Jaguars' decision last week to place the franchise tag on left tackle Cam Robinson changing the dynamics of the jaguars.com 2022 mock draft tracker.

Whereas draft analysts previously were nearly unanimous projecting offensive tackle to the Jaguars at No. 1 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, Michigan edge defender Aidan Hutchinson emerged as a more popular projection after the Jaguars tagged Robinson Tuesday.

Six of 17 analysts in this week's ninth jaguars.com '22 draft tracker projected Hutchinson to the Jaguars at No. 1 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.

"Josh Allen and Hutchinson would form an edge-rushing tandem for Jacksonville to build around; placing the franchise tag on offensive tackle Cam Robinson might be a sign that the Jaguars are doing defense first at the top of the draft," Jason McIntyre of Fox Sports wrote.

"Engaging off the field, relentless between the lines and highly productive, the Heisman Trophy finalist set a Wolverines record with 14 sacks in 2021," Nate Davis of USA Today wrote of Hutchinson. "The 6-7, 260-pounder would form quite the QB-hunting tandem opposite Jacksonville's Josh Allen."

Wrote Kevin Hanson of the Monday Morning Quarterback of Hutchinson: "His combination of leadership qualities, nonstop motor, athleticism and production makes him about as safe as it gets."

Four of 17 analysts projected North Carolina State offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu No. 1 overall.

"Yes, the Jaguars just placed the franchise tag on Cam Robinson (again), but that doesn't solve the left tackle situation for the long-term. Ekwonu was an all-conference pick at both guard and tackle, and both of the Jags' starters at guard are headed for free agency," Luke Easterling of USA Today Draft Wire wrote.

"Yes, the Jags used the franchise tag on Cam Robinson last week, but that doesn't magically fix their OL or mean that it suddenly makes sense to draft an edge rusher," Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports wrote of Ekwonu.

Alabama offensive tackle Evan Neal, a near-unanimous projection to the Jaguars at No. 1 overall before the 2022 Scouting Combine in early March, remained the most popular projection to the Jaguars at No. 1 overall with seven of 17 analysts projecting him there.

"The buzz for Neal will take off after his workout at the Alabama Pro Day," Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports wrote.

"Once upon a time, Neal played guard for Alabama and he's held down spots on both sides of the line; get the trenches right for Trevor Lawrence," Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network wrote.
