JACKSONVILLE – Consensus time is over.
The time for debate has returned when it comes to the Jaguars and the 2019 NFL Draft – and a day out, the debate suddenly is very real.
T.J. Hockenson. Jawaan Taylor. Jonah Williams.
All three players were projected to the Jaguars by multiple analysts in this week's 15th and final 2019 jaguars.com mock draft tracker, with Hockenson and Taylor projected to the Jaguars at No. 7 overall by at least five of 16 national analysts predicting the 2019 NFL Draft April 25-27.
Hockenson, a tight end from Iowa, was the Jaguars' selection at No. 7 by seven analysts in this week's mock draft tracker – including longtime ESPN analyst Todd McShay. McShay's dilemma for the selection reflected the thoughts of many – that Taylor/Hockenson could be the Jaguars' dilemma, too.
"I could have taken Jawaan Taylor here, but bottom line, Hockenson is a big, fast playmaker – and [new quarterback] Nick Foles and the Jaguars need them," McShay wrote.
Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports also projected Hockenson to the Jaguars.
"One of the 10 best players in this draft, T.J. Hockenson would give Nick Foles a much-needed middle-of the-field weapon," Wilson wrote.
Football Morning in America's Peter King also projected Hockenson there, writing: "My feeling is the Tom Coughlin/Dave Caldwell decision comes down to Hockenson or Taylor, and they go with the best tight end to come out in years."
Taylor, a right tackle from the University of Florida who had been the most popular projection to the Jaguars at No. 7 in recent weeks, again was a selection of choice by many analysts.
"The Jags want to get back to running the ball and throwing off of play-action -- a formula that led them to an AFC title game in 2017," Charles Davis of NFL Media wrote. "This fierce Gator helps achieve that in a big way."
Dan Kadar of SB Nation agreed, writing: "My choice for the Jaguars would have been Alabama's Jonah Williams, but the general consensus on this pick has become Taylor."
Williams, an offensive tackle from Alabama, was projected to the Jaguars by two analysts – including Steve Palazzolo of Pro Football Focus.
"This iteration of the draft has set up well for the Jaguars, who get the top offensive tackle on our draft board in Williams," Palazzolo wrote.
Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports projected Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams – widely considered a Top 3-to-5 selection – falling to the Jaguars at No. 7.
"Doug Marrone, Tom Coughlin, and Dave Caldwell remember how vital their defensive line when the team was a few minutes away from playing in the Super Bowl; Williams, to some, is the best prospect in this class," Trapasso wrote.
NFL Media draft analyst Chad Reuter projected Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver to the Jaguars at No. 7.
"Oliver is an interior disruptor who can help replace Malik Jackson, who was released in March," Reuter wrote.
