Official: Farwell, special teams staff named


JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars' new coaching staff includes a new special teams staff.

Heath Farwell, a six-year NFL coaching veteran who spent the last three seasons as the Buffalo Bills' special teams coordinator, has been named the Jaguars' special teams coordinator. The Jaguars announced the move Thursday as they announced Head Coach Doug Pederson's new coaching staff – a group that includes special teams assistant Luke Thompson.

The Jaguars named Pederson the seventh head coach in franchise history on February 4.

Farwell was the Carolina Panthers' assistant special teams coach in 2018 and was a coaching assistant/special teams coach for the Seattle Seahawks in 2017. He played linebacker 10 seasons in the NFL – 2005-2010 with the Minnesota Vikings and 2011-2014 with the Seahawks. He was the Seahawks' special teams captain in 2014, a year they capped with a victory in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Thompson, three-year NFL coaching veteran, spent 2019-2020 as the assistant special teams coach for the Philadelphia Eagles. He spent 2017-2018 as the defensive coordinator/linebackers coach at Lafayette College. He was the special teams coordinator/linebackers coach for Georgetown from 2006-2011, the special teams coordinator/linebackers coach for Army from 2012-2013 and the defensive coordinator/linebackers coach from 2014-2016.

Thompson previously coached collegiately at Bowdoin, Holy Cross, Amherst and Harvard.
