Top of the morning news for August 30, 2011

"I just want to bring some excitement, some explosiveness," Hill said. "I feel like whatever Dirk [Koetter] dials up, I can do. … It's time to turn those shoulda, coulda, wouldas into big plays."  The Times-Union

"I apologized to the [starters] — if I do end up playing the fourth preseason game and putting them back out there," Jones-Drew said. "But I told them if I&39;ve got to go, we&39;ve all got to go, so they&39;re all happy about that. It will be fun. We&39;re going to have fun. We&39;re going to do some things and do some things wrong, but it&39;s going back out there and getting the feel for it and just getting ready to roll."  The Times-Union

David Garrard wants to throw the deep ball more often in 2011.

"Maurice Jones-Drewis ready to play Thursday. And while the Jaguars' two-time Pro Bowl running back won't necessarily play much – it is, after all, still the preseason – his debut won't be an insignificant one for a team that has struggled on offense at times during the 2011 preseason."

"Jaguars defensive end Aaron Kampmanis coming off a torn ACL for the second season in a row. The plan for him all along has been to build up to snaps in the final preseason game, against the Rams Thursday night."

The Titans could be without one of their top pass rushers when they visit Jacksonville on Kickoff Weekend.

"The Dolphins also plan to make it clear to their fans that tickets sales for regular-season games are not going as well as the team would like and that could mean blackouts of several meaningful regular-season games are about to happen." The Miami Herald

Maurice Jones-Drew expressed his enthusiasm for getting the opportunity to play on Thursday.

"Manning hopes he can make the decision whether to extend his NFL-leading streak for consecutive regular-season starts. He has started 208 games in a row -- 227 including the playoffs. The Sept. 11 opener is at Houston."  Indianapolis Star

Quarterback David Garrard met with the local media on Monday.

"Today, the team will hold a news conference to celebrate a 6-year Vick contract, which a source close to the situation said will earn the QB $100 million, with $40 million guaranteed. Vick&39;s average of $16.67 million a year places him just behind the NFL&39;s two highest-paid quarterbacks, the Patriots&39; Tom Brady and the Colts&39; Peyton Manning, who make about $18 million a year. This is the biggest per-year contract in Eagles history, and the biggest story of redemption, perhaps, in the history of sports." Philadelphia Inquirer

The last word

"I'd take every rep that I can get, but I think the reality is that there has been a plan all along. We're working the plan, the plan is working and the plan has been to get some reps this Thursday in the last preseason game. Barring any changes, that's going to be what we're going to do."
