"A lot of Jaguars' fans have taken to complaining lately about general manager Gene Smith's penchant for drafting or signing players from small schools, but you don't hear that when it comes to Chick, who played at Utah State."  The Times-Union

"However tough the circumstance, Maurice Jones-Drew said one thing is certain: You can't play miserable in the NFL – not if you want to win."

"He came in here; he grew up as a man here," Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew said. "Obviously his time in St. Louis wasn't what he wanted it to be, so we'll welcome him back with open arms. Get him back here and help this offense out as much as possible."  The Times-Union

"The Jaguars knew all week they would be without Monroe, who was nursing a shoulder injury, but coach Jack Del Rio didn't find out until two hours before the game that Britton had a flare-up of his back problem and wouldn't be able to go. Britton wasn't on the field Tuesday."  The Times-Union

Will Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson be on the field when the Jaguars visit on October 30?

Scouting the opponent

"During the Ravens' 29-14 victory Sunday over the Houston Texans, Cundiff booted five field goals. He converted from 43, 48, 25, 33 and 40 yards. And he also broke his franchise single-game record with seven touchbacks, sailing one into the stands at M&T Bank Stadium."  Carroll County Times

The Baltimore Sun's Q/A with safety Bernard Pollard.

"The Ravens are scoring touchdowns just 36.8 percent of the time that they cross the opposing team's 20-yard line, a number which puts them 29th in the NFL when it comes to red zone percentage."

"Flacco has done a nice job this season of avoiding pressure long enough to get the ball away, and has even turned heavy pressure into positive gains on a few occasions by shrugging off a defender and hitting an open receiver or dumping the ball off to running back Ray Rice."

"Despite being limited to obvious passing downs, McPhee, the second of two fifth-round picks in April, has made strides in his development in the unit's 3-4 schemes." Baltimore Sun

The Ravens made a couple roster moves on Tuesday.  The Baltimore Sun

"Boldin's status among his younger teammates was cemented when the organization parted ways with wide receiver Derrick Mason and tight end Todd Heap."  The Baltimore Sun

The last word

"Look, when you're preparing to go up against the very best I think it challenges you to be at your very best.  He's definitely getting experience, he's definitely learning from that experience. I think it's more than just about his development but certainly that's one aspect and he is doing that, and so there is a benefit for the Jaguars and for Blaine Gabbert long-term. Right now we just want to find a way to get a win now, for us, and certainly that experience has been good for him and his growth."
