Former NFL LB Tony Gilbert is in his third season with the Jaguars and first season as inside linebackers coach after being hired by the team as an assistant linebackers coach in 2020.

In 2021, the Jaguars were one of three teams in the AFC to have two linebackers record at least 100 tackles as LB Myles Jack (108 tackles) and LB Damien Wilson (104) posted a combined 212 tackles.

Under Gilbert's guidance in 2020, LB Joe Schobert record 141 tackles, the second-most among AFC players and the fourth-most in the NFL. Jack finished the season with a career-high 118 tackles (72 solo), two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

Prior to joining the Jaguars, Gilbert spent two seasons (2018-19) at Central Florida, where he served as the defensive quality control coach. He arrived at Central Florida after serving as a defensive quality control coach specialist and assistant linebacker coach at North Carolina from 2015-17.

Prior to working at North Carolina, Gilbert served as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at John Milledge Academy (Milledgeville, Ga.) from June 2014-May 2015. Previously, he served as the assistant defensive backs coach and linebacker coach at Georgia Military College from July 2013-May 2014. Prior to joining the staff at Georgia Military College, he coached the defensive line and linebackers for six months (January – June) at East Mississippi Community College. Prior to that, Gilbert served as a defensive graduate assistant & assistant linebackers coach at Auburn in 2012 after one season (2011) as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Georgia.

After an impressive playing career at the University of Georgia, where he earned All-SEC Second Team honors as a senior and started every game at middle linebacker, Gilbert was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the sixth round of the 2003 NFL Draft and also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars (2003-07) and Atlanta Falcons (2008-09).

A native of Macon, Ga., Gilbert and his wife, Sonia, have six children: Isaiah, Nadja, Jacobi, Kasmir, Amir and Brianna.
