JACKSONVILLE – Senior writer John Oehser examines the Wednesday that was as the Jaguars began preparing to play the Baltimore Ravens at EverBank Field in Jacksonville Sunday at 1 p.m.

IVORY RETURNS ON LIMITED BASIS

Chris Ivory returned to practice on a limited basis Wednesday.

As for when the veteran will practice full or play, Jaguars Head Coach Gus Bradley said that is not yet known.

Ivory, a Pro Bowl running back and 1,000-yard rusher for the New York Jets last season, has missed the Jaguars' first two games with a general medical issue. He returned to EverBank Field last Thursday after being hospitalized shortly before the team's September 11 regular-season opener.

His limited practice Wednesday was his first since his hospitalization.

"He did pretty good," Bradley said of Ivory Wednesday as the Jaguars (0-2) began preparing to play the Ravens (2-0). "I do not know where he is [physically] right now, but from what I saw out there today he was moving around pretty good."

Left tackle Kelvin Beachum also missed practice Wednesday after leaving the fourth quarter of Sunday's 38-14 loss to San Diego with a concussion. He remained hospitalized Sunday night in San Diego and returned to Jacksonville Monday.

Beachum started the first two games of the regular season after being named the starter at the position over 2013 No. 2 overall NFL Draft selection Luke Joeckel. Beachum had missed the team's first two preseason games with a torn anterior cruciate ligament sustained with Pittsburgh last season.

Joeckel started the past two seasons at left tackle and played well in two preseason games there before starting the first two games of the regular season at guard.

Bradley said Joeckel and reserve tackle Patrick Omameh both worked at left tackle Wednesday. Tyler Shatley and Chris Reed are options at left guard if Joeckel plays left tackle.

"We'll see how all of those things come together with Beachum," Bradley said. "I know they [trainers] said it was good today. We'll have Plan A, Plan B, Plan C based on what we find out."

INJURY REPORT

Wide receiver Allen Robinson missed practice with an illness Wednesday.

Defensive end Jared Odrick missed practice with an elbow injury sustained Sunday, and cornerback Prince Amukamara missed practice with a hamstring injury after also missing Sunday in San Diego.

Strong safety Johnathan Cyprien missed practice with a triceps injury sustained Sunday. Cyprien also was listed with a knee injury and right tackle Jermey Parnell worked limited with a groin injury.

ON THE RISE

Jaguars defensive coordinator Todd Wash was candid earlier this month about the need for second-year Leo defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. to "become a pro." Wash at the time said he was working extensively with Fowler on improving pass-rush techniques, film study and work ethic. Wash said Wednesday Fowler's improvement in those areas in recent weeks has been significant. "He really has (improved)," Wash said of Fowler, who registered his first two career sacks against San Diego after missing his rookie season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. "It is a situation where he is studying more. He is in the building earlier. He is staying later. He is really studying his opponent. He is telling me things about the guys now. We are very excited obviously with where he's at. I think we are just starting to see who Dante is. It is going to be exciting to watch him grow through the season.

GAME PLAN

Quarterback Blake Bortles' weekly meeting with the media Wednesday had a generally serious tone with the third-year veteran talking extensively about his need to eliminate what he called "dumb" mistakes. But Bortles drew laughter late in the session when talking about the Jaguars' victory over the Ravens last season. The Jaguars won the game on a final-play field goal by kicker Jason Myers. The field goal came on an untimed play after Ravens defensive Elvis Dumervil was penalized for grabbing Bortles' face mask on the Jaguars' last play from scrimmage. "Obviously, you're in it 'til the end," Bortles said. "And when in doubt, throw your head out there and try to get a facemask."
