Justin Mencini - Week 9

Justin Mencini - Week 9

Justin Mencini is an artist that specializes in a unique style known as sculpted relief art. A former elementary art teacher, he modernized this medium and has combined it with his lifelong love of sports. The three-dimensional forms are composed of layers of a plaster compound that is applied and sculpted with palette knives and small chisels. Once solidified, he applies acrylic and decorative metallic paints to the image, further enhancing the textures and shapes of the sculpture. Justin does this style of artwork on wooden panels or directly on walls, and has taken on custom commissions and murals across the U.S. He spends his free time with his wife, daughter, and son, and makes it a point to always catch the Jaguars—the football team he grew up loving since childhood.
