In and out: Fournette out

Posted Dec 17, 2017

RB Leonard Fournette one of seven inactive players for Jaguars against Houston Texans at EverBank Field Sunday

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars will be without their leading rusher Sunday.

Leonard Fournette, the Jaguars’ rookie running back and their leading rusher this season, will miss the team’s game Sunday against the Houston Texans at EverBank Field. Fournette was ruled out 90 minutes before kickoff with a quadriceps injury.

Fournette, who has rushed for 923 yards and eight touchdowns this season, did not practice this past week and was listed as questionable on the team’s Friday injury report.

Veteran Chris Ivory is expected to start in his place. The Jaguars have three healthy running backs: Ivory, Corey Grant and T.J. Yeldon.

The Jaguars are 2-0 this season in games without Fournette. They beat the Colts 27-0 in Indianapolis on October 22 with Fournette out with an ankle injury and they beat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-7 in Jacksonville two weeks later when Fournette did not play after a team rules infraction.

The Jaguars rushed for 188 yards against the Colts without Fournette and 139 against Cincinnati.

Fournette was one of seven players made inactive 90 minutes before kickoff. The others:

Wide receiver Larry Pinkard (concussion), nose tackle Eli Ankou, offensive guard Chris Reed, offensive tackle Josh Walker, offensive tackle William Poehls and wide receiver Allen Hurns (ankle).

Rookie Keelan Cole will start a fifth consecutive game for Hurns, who has been out the last five games since sustaining the injury late in a victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.
