Jaguars make roster moves

Posted Aug 2, 2014

The Jacksonville Jaguars make several transactions before the team's scrimmage on Saturday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed rookie wide receiver Kenny Shaw, third-year defensive tackle David Carter and fifth-year linebacker Josh Hull.  The club waived/injured defensive tackle Jordan Miller (knee), linebacker John Lotulelei (knee) and wide receiver Damian Copeland (wrist).

Shaw, 5-11, 180, was originally signed as an undrafted rookie by Cleveland in 2014 and was waived on July 12.  The former Florida State standout was a four-year letterman and finished his collegiate career with 124 receptions for 1,919 yards and 13 touchdowns.  He saw action as a slot receiver in 2013 and ranked second on the squad with 54 catches for 933 yards while averaging 9.7 yards per punt return. Shaw attended Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando where he caught 46 passes for 732 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior. He will wear jersey number 4.

Carter, 6-5, 300, has spent time with Arizona, Dallas and Oakland, playing in 35 games with four starts.  He was originally a sixth-round draft pick of Arizona in 2011 and played in 32 games with four starts in two seasons with the Cardinals.  His career totals include 30 tackles (18 solo), one sack, two passes defensed and one forced fumble.   The third-year pro spent a month with Dallas during the 2013 season and was with Oakland for the majority of the 2014 offseason before he was waived on May 20.

A native of Los Angeles, California, Carter was a four-year letterman at UCLA, where he totaled 41 tackles, five tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks as a senior. He attended Henry J. Kaiser High School (Fontana, Calif.) where he registered 69 tackles (53 solo), seven sacks and nine passes defensed as a senior. Carter will wear jersey number 77.

Hull, 6-3, 245, was a seventh-round draft pick of St. Louis in 2010 and played in 28 games for the Rams over three seasons.  He was waived by the Rams in 2013 on final cuts and signed on Oct. 15 by Washington where he spent the remainder of the season.  Hull spent the 2014 offseason with New England before he was waived on July 28.  He has played in 39 career games with one start and totaled 25 tackles (18 solo), one tackle for loss and one forced fumble.

The State College, Pennsylvania native began his career at Penn State as a walk-on.  He led the Nittany Lions with 116 tackles as a senior after totaling 75 as a junior.  Hull attended Penn Valley High where he was a three-year starter and also lettered on the baseball team.
