Jacksonville Jaguars rookie CB Jalen Ramseyhas been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the team’s Week 16 victory over Tennessee, the NFL announced today.

In the Jaguars’ win against the Titans, Ramsey continued to make his case for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year (#RamseyDROY) as he registered four solo tackles and four passes defensed, including one interception of Titans QB Matt Cassel which he returned 30 yards for a TD in the fourth quarter. It marked the first pick-six by a rookie in franchise history.

Ramsey also became the first rookie in Jaguars history to register an interception in back-to-back games—Ramsey also intercepted Houston QB Brock Osweiler in the Jaguars’ Week 15 matchup. Over the last two games entering Week 17, Ramsey has totaled nine passes defensed, including two INTs (one pick-six), eight tackles and one forced fumble. For the season, Ramsey has totaled 61 tackles (51 solo), 13 passes defensed, two INTs (one pick-six) and one forced fumble.

Ramsey is the first Jaguars player to win AFC Player of the Week honors since fellow FSU alumnus Rashad Greene was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 14 of the 2015 season after registering a 73-yard punt return TD against the Colts.

Ramsey is the first Jaguars player to win AFC Defensive Player of the Week since fellow FSU alumnus Telvin Smith was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 7 of the 2015 season. Ramsey also joins Smith (Week 7 of the 2014 season) as the only rookies in franchise history to win AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
