JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars went north for their latest assistant. Way, way north.

They also hired someone with championship experience at the professional level.

Scott Milanovich, head coach of the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts since 2012, has been named the Jaguars' quarterbacks coach. The team made the announcement early Friday evening.

"Scott Milanovich brings a variety of experience to our coaching staff, and we are eager for him to get started," Jaguars Executive Vice President of Football Operations Tom Coughlin said in a statement Friday. "Working closely with Offensive Coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, we expect the quarterback position to deliver positive results under Scott's direction and guidance."

Milanovich, who spent 1996-1999 as a quarterback with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, coached the past 10 seasons in the CFL and spent 2007-2011 with the Montreal Alouettes.

He had a 43-47 record as Toronto's head coach the past five seasons and coached the Argonauts to a victory in the Grey Cup following the Grey Cup following the 2012 season.

Milanovich was the CFL Coach of the Year in 2012.

"We are pleased to welcome Scott and his family to the Jaguars organization," Jaguars Head Coach Doug Marrone. "He will be a great asset to our coaching staff, as his professional playing and coaching experience will be vital in the improvement of our quarterbacks."

Milanovich thanked the Argonauts in a statement.

"I would like to thank the Argonauts' Ownership, President & CEO Michael Copeland, the staff, all the players and coaches, and most importantly, the wonderful city of Toronto and the loyal fans for the opportunity to serve as your head coach for the past five seasons," Milanovich said. "This has been an amazing experience for my family and me, and we're so appreciative of all the wonderful friends we've made and memories we've created in Toronto."

Milanovich spent 2009-2011 as the Alouettes' offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach. He spent 2007 overseeing the development of the Alouettes' quarterbacks.

Milanovich coached in NFL Europe with the Rhein Fire as quarterbacks coach in 2004 and as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in 2005, then spent 2006 as the quarterbacks coach/offensive coordinator of the Cologne Centurions.

Marrone was hired as permanent head coach January 9. Milanovich became the 10th coach officially named to Marrone's staff.

The Jaguars have named Joe DeCamillis special teams coordinator, Todd Wash defensive coordinator and Nathaniel Hackett offensive coordinator. They also have announced the hirings of offensive line coach Pat Flaherty, secondary coach Perry Fewell, running backs coach Tyrone Wheatley, defensive line coach Marion Hobby, wide receivers coach Keenan McCardell and linebackers coach Mark Collins.
