Defensive staff realigned

Coach Tom Coughlin has made two changes to his defensive coaching staff. Lucious Selmon, who has served as outside linebackers coach for the past seven seasons, will now become the team's defensive line coach. Steve Szabo, who has been the inside linebackers coach since 1995, will now coach all of the team's linebackers.

Both of these changes follow the appointment of John Pease as assistant head coach/defensive coordinator on Tuesday. Pease had been coaching the Jaguars defensive line since the team's inaugural season.

"With this realignment of our defensive staff, I feel we are well-positioned to move forward in an efficient and effective way," Coughlin said. "This is a good group which has worked together well, and these changes should benefit the defense and the team."

The duties of the remaining defensive coaches – secondary coach Perry Fewell and defensive quality control coach Paul Haynes – will remain unchanged.

Selmon, 50, is entering his 27th season of coaching, including 19 years on the staff at Oklahoma. He was an All-America defensive lineman for the Sooners prior to coaching the defensive line at Oklahoma from 1976-83, and serving as outside linebackers/defensive ends coach from 1984-94.

Szabo, 57, came to the Jaguars in 1994 with Coughlin after serving three seasons as defensive coordinator under Coughlin at Boston College. Szabo spent 25 years coaching at the college level prior to 1994, including three seasons as head coach at Edinboro (Pa.).
