First off the field: Day 12

8-11-21-first-off-oline

JACKSONVILLE – On the 12th day, it remained hot.

The Jaguars also went a bit lighter in terms of pads on Day 12 of 2021 Training Camp Wednesday, with a two-hour, ten-minute practice in 86-degree temperatures that felt like 95 at the Dream Finders Homes Practice Complex. The Jaguars worked in shorts, light pads and helmets.

Hall of Fame Head Coach Jimmy Johnson spoke to the team Wednesday as a guest of Jaguars Head Coach Urban Meyer.

This was a day after former Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew addressed the team.

"It gives us a different point of view; those guys have done some great things," Jaguars left tackle Cam Robinson said Wednesday. "Hearing a different perspective, a winning perspective … I think it has been good for us. If each person just takes a little gem, or a little nugget, from each one of those guys – that's what we're trying to get done."

The Jaguars open the 2021 preseason against the Cleveland Browns at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville Saturday at 7 p.m.

"We compete at a high level each and every practice – no matter the situation, whether we're three weeks from a preseason game or four or five days from a preseason game," Robinson said.

The Jaguars on Wednesday went through multiple special teams drills including kickoff, field goal and punt team – and finished practice with extensive red-zone work.

Jaguars offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell spoke to the media following Wednesday's practice, as did outside linebacker/defensive end K'Lavon Chaisson and Robinson. Coverage of those availabilities can be seen Wednesday on Jaguars Media channels and jaguars.com.

Meyer is scheduled to speak to the media at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, with a practice to follow at 9:45 a.m.

Here's a look at Wednesday's practice:

PLAY OF THE DAY

This wasn't a day for huge offensive plays, but it was a solid – and sometimes impressive – day for Jaguars rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence. He looked good and accurate in red-zone work, throwing multiple touchdown passes with Bevell afterward saying Lawrence and the rest of the offense are getting progressively more familiar – and comfortable – with the offense. The play of the day? A long pass from Lawrence to wide receiver Josh Hammond in mid-practice team work, a play that went for about a 25-yard gain.
