First off the field: Day 3

7-30-21-JoshAllen

JACKSONVILLE – The fans were there again. This time, they got a break.

That's because there was some cloud cover – and a breeze – at Day 3 of Jaguars 2021 Training Camp as the team worked for a third consecutive day with no contact and no pads at the Dream Finders Homes Practice Complex. But that didn't make Friday easy.

"It's hot out here," center Brandon Linder said after the Jaguars practiced for about one hour, 45 minutes in 84-degree temperatures Friday morning.

It was the second consecutive day fans attended '21 training camp.

Linder, the Jaguars' most-tenured player, spoke to the media following Day 3 practice – as did defensive coordinator Joe Cullen and defensive end/linebacker Josh Allen. Coverage of those availabilities can be found later on jaguars.com and Jaguars Media channels.

Jaguars Head Coach Urban Meyer is expected to address the media Saturday following practice.

Rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, continued to be a major story at '21 camp. He and veteran Gardner Minshew II split repetitions evenly Friday on a day that featured extensive seven-on-seven and teamwork in the red zone.

Both quarterbacks threw multiple touchdown passes in the team and 7-on-7 periods, with Lawrence showing striking velocity on multiple passes into the corner of the end zone in red-zone work.

"Trevor's doing great – poised in the huddle, confident, making some incredible throws, putting the ball on the receivers," Linder said. "It's exciting."

Allen on Lawrence: "I can see the growth he's already made in these first couple of months. It's crazy. The sky's the limit for that guy. I love it."

Cullen discussed multiple players on the Jaguars' defense, and said he was pleased with the retention from the offseason program. He also specifically discussed Allen – a third-year veteran who played in the Pro Bowl following his 2019 rookie season.

"I expect greatness from him," Cullen said of Allen, the No. 7 overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Jaguars will practice again at 9:45 a.m. Saturday with a day off scheduled Sunday.

Here's a look at Friday's practice:

PLAY OF THE DAY

As was the case Thursday, the play of the day came from Lawrence – who consistently has stood out during the first three days of camp. With Minshew taking the first few snaps of an 11-on-11 drill midway through practice – the first offense-versus-defense drill of the day – Lawrence opened his repetitions with a deep pass to wide receiver Jalen Camp. Lawrence avoided pressure on the play and threw a perfect pass to Camp, who caught it behind the defense for a touchdown.
