JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars' cornerback situation remains uncertain.

CJ Henderson, a starter at corner in the first two games of the 2021 season, is questionable entering the weekend for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals according to Jaguars Head Coach Urban Meyer – and the team's Friday injury report.

Meyer said rookie Tyson Campbell is an option at the spot.

"We're still working through it, but Tyson's been playing pretty good," Meyer said Friday in his last media availability before the Jaguars (0-2) play the Cardinals (2-0) at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville Sunday at 1 p.m.

Henderson and Shaquill Griffin started at corner in Weeks 1 and 2, with Campbell – the No. 33 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft – playing extensively at nickel corner and starting there last Sunday in a 23-13 loss to the Denver Broncos in Jacksonville. Second-year veteran Chris Claybrooks played opposite Griffin when Henderson left at halftime against Denver.

Meyer added of Campbell:

“We’re very pleased with where he is. He’s going to have a long career in the NFL. He’s a grinder, a worker, a great kid. He’s a young cat who is a very, very talented guy. He’s going to be a great player.” Head Coach Urban Meyer

Henderson, the No. 9 overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, left the Denver game with a groin issue and missed practice Thursday with an illness.

Cornerback Tre Herndon, out the first two games of the season with a media collateral ligament injury, was listed as questionable on the Friday injury report. The Jaguars signed veteran Nevin Lawson this week. Cornerbacks Lorenzo Burns and Brandon Rusnak are on the Jaguars' practice squad.

Meyer also said Friday tight end Jacob Hollister, who signed with the Jaguars free agent before the regular-season opener and who has been inactive in Weeks 1 and 2, will be active Sunday. The Jaguars placed tight end James O'Shaughnessy on injured reserve this week with an ankle injury.

Hollister, a fifth-year veteran who has played with the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks – and who was released by the Buffalo Bills following the 2021 preseason – has 74 career receptions for 652 yards and six touchdowns.

"He has shown speed," Meyer said. "He looks quick. He's a nice, twitched-up, athletic tight end."

Also on Friday:

  • Meyer reiterated what he said earlier this week – that he remains confident in Josh Lambo after the veteran kicker missed all three of his field-goal attempts in the first two games. "He had a really good week," Meyer said. "I have confidence in that guy. Just hang in there, man. I've got a lot of confidence in him."
  • Meyer on quarterback Trevor Lawrence: "I love Trevor Lawrence. I love everything about the guy. I know Jacksonville will – or does. The quarterback gets a lot of the glory when you win and a lot of fingers pointed at you when you lose. The one common characteristic of a great quarterback is he has a great team around him. Every great quarterback has that. We will do that. We are growing that right now. That kid is unbelievable to coach. Everything about the guy is an A-plus."
  • Defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris is listed as questionable on the final injury report of the week with an ankle injury. All other Jaguars players with reported injuries this week – defensive end/outside linebacker Lerentee McCray (hamstring), wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. (shoulder), right guard A.J. Cann (hamstring), defensive end/outside linebacker Jordan Smith (knee), center Brandon Linder (back) and defensive tackle Jay Tufele (illness) – are expected to be available Sunday.
  • Meyer also said tight end Trey Burton is expected to visit the Jaguars. The eight-year veteran free agent has caught 159 passes for 1,532 yards and 15 touchdowns with the Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears.
