The Jacksonville Jaguars signed first-year wide receiver Chastin West to a contract today and waived rookie wide receiver Jamar Newsome. West had been on the Green Bay Packers practice squad.
West, 6-1, 214, joined the Packers as an undrafted rookie in 2010 and spent the entire season on the club's practice squad. He led the Packers in the 2011 preseason with 153 yards on eight receptions before he was waived on final cuts and signed to the practice squad.  He had a 97-yard touchdown reception against Arizona in week two of the preseason.
A native of Moorpark, Calif., West was a three-year letterman at Fresno State as a wide receiver and return specialist. He finished his career with six touchdowns on 79 receptions and had three returns for scores.  He starred in football and track at Moorpark High School and was the first player in school history to get a Division I-A scholarship offer. His name is pronounced CHAS-tin.
West will wear jersey number 17.
