Jaguars trim roster to 53

The Jacksonville Jaguars released 21 players this evening and placed defensive lineman Rob Meier (pictured) on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.

Included in the cuts were ten veterans: Tight end Richard Angulo, safety Marlon McCree, running back Alvin Pearman, offensive lineman Tony Pashos, linebacker Tim Shaw, running back Chauncey Washington, punter Steve Weatherford, defensive back Brian Williams, linebacker Thomas Williams and long snapper Joe Zelenka.

Also waived was seventh-round wide receiver Tiquan Underwood and ten other first-year players: Quarterback Todd Boeckman, fullback Brock Bolen, safety Michael Desormeaux, cornerback Pete Ittersagen, defensive end Jeremy Navarre, center Cecil Newton, wide receiver Todd Peterson, guard Cameron Stephenson running back Josh Vaughan and linebacker Johnny Williams.

In all, eight of this year's nine draft choices are on the current 53-man roster. Two undrafted rookies made the opening day roster in linebacker Russell Allen and defensive end Julius Williams.

The Jaguars' roster now stands at 53 players and the team will be able to sign eight players to their practice squad after 12:00 noon Sunday. Of the 53 players, 30 were drafted by Jacksonville including 26 from 2003 through 2008.
