JACKSONVILLE – Tom Coughlin again is a step closer.
Coughlin, the Jaguars' first head coach who in 2024 was inducted into the Pride of the Jaguars, on Wednesday was among nine coaches named as coaching semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
It's the third year for Coughlin as a semifinalist.
The Hall's Coach Blue-Ribbon Committee on Wednesday trimmed the list from 12 candidates. The committee will trim the list to one finalist later this month.
The nine semifinalists: Bill Belichick, Coughlin, Mike Holmgren, Chuck Knox, Buddy Parker, Dan Reeves, Marty Schottenheimer, George Seifert and Mike Shanahan.
Coughlin won Super Bowls following the 2007 and 2011 seasons as head coach of the New York Giants. He took the Jaguars to four consecutive playoff appearances following the 1996-1999 seasons and to AFC Championship Games following the 1996 and 1999 seasons.
