Maurice Jones-Drew liked how his teammates responded this week

"Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew liked how his teammates responded this week after dropping their fourth consecutive game on Sunday."  The Times-Union

"Mincey, a fourth-year veteran, in a little more than two seasons with the Jaguars has developed into not only a starter, but a sometimes-overlooked reason for the Jaguars' defensive improvement this season."

"Harris said he stayed in shape by approaching his workouts as if he were still with a team, working Wednesdays, Thursdays and Friday, then taking Saturday off before punting Sundays. Because of that schedule, he wasn't aware of Turk's struggles with the Jaguars this season."

"Del Rio is looking for better play overall from the special teams. The Jaguars had one of the better units in the league last season, but have struggled this season." The Times-Union

"Del Rio said there were positives offensively that could be built upon, and specifically mentioned progress from rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert."

"Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey wishes his former Gators teammate Tim Tebow the best." The Times-Union

Scouting the opponent

"After opening the season by gaining more than 100 yards receiving in three consecutive games, Mike Wallace has been held to 77 and 82 yards in the last two games."

"He's a tough guy to tackle," linebacker James Farrior said. "We'll have to have a lot of guys around the ball. He's not going down with arm tackles."  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

"Pouncey's girlfriend was supposed to give birth that day, but because of the size of the baby, she had to have a C-section Monday. That meant little sleep for Pouncey, who is from Lakeland, Fla., and starred at the University of Florida." Pittsburgh Tribune Review

"Last year, the defense allowed three opening-drive touchdowns in 19 games."  Pittsburgh Tribune Review

"Brown, who's second on the team in receiving yards (246) and third in receptions (17), just hopes he gets more chances as a return specialist." Beaver County Times

"With 476 rushing yards and 553 total, Jones-Drew has accounted for more than 40 percent of Jacksonville's offensive output. Only Baltimore's Ray Rice and Chicago's Matt Forte have accounted for a larger percentage of their team's total offense." Washington Observer-Reporter

Stat of the day

The Jaguars rank second in the NFL from 2003 in rushing yards per game with 132.4 yards per game.

The last word

"(James) Harrison is a Pro Bowl player. He's a good player but they moved another linebacker around and another guy into his spot and they're playing.  (Lawrence) Timmons moves outside where he was, (James) Farrior and (Larry) Foote move inside and they keep rolling.  They fought through injuries in the past just like all of us do. You're talking about two really good players, two Pro Bowl type players when they are out."
