Mock Draft Tracker 4.0: Story still unanimous at No. 1

mockdrafttrackercover

JACKSONVILLE – Still the same.

That's still the story with the No. 1 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft – and when it comes to projecting the Jaguars' selection there, repetition remains the watchword.

Trevor Lawrence, Trevor Lawrence, Trevor Lawrence.

The Clemson University quarterback remained the unanimous selection by draft analysts for the Jaguars at No. 1 overall – and that no doubt will be perceived as good news by fans wanting the Jaguars to select a player many believe the best quarterback prospect to enter the NFL in a nearly a decade.

That means this jaguars.com mock drafter – the fourth of the 2021 offseason – reads much like the first three trackers, with analysts searching for different ways to say they expect the Jaguars to select Lawrence No. 1:

*Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports: "The Jaguars are starting their rebuilding process in the best way imaginable -- with Lawrence on a rookie contract."

*Lance Zierlein of NFL Media: "This pick should be set in stone as the Jaguars hit reset with a brand new face of the franchise."

*Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network: "The news this weekend that Lawrence will be undergoing left (non-throwing) shoulder surgery should be inconsequential for his NFL Draft outlook."

*Michael Renner of Pro Football Focus: "If the Jaguars take up the full 10 minutes on draft night, they should be forced to forfeit future picks.

*Chad Reuter of NFL Media: "This is not a complicated decision for new coach Urban Meyer, as Lawrence possesses all of the characteristics you'd want in a professional quarterback. The Meyer-Lawrence Era starts now . "

The Jaguars' second selection of the '21 draft – No. 25 overall in Round 1 – continued to be anything but a consensus. Whereas no analyst in four trackers has projected anyone but Lawrence at No. 1 overall, analysts in this week's tracker projected several different players at No. 25 – with Texas Christian safety Trevon Moehrig the lone player projected there by multiple analysts.

"This safety class is deep with a lot of similarly valued prospects but Moehrig has managed to stand out from the rest as a ball-hawking presence, strong run supporter and solid single cover man," Vinny Iyer of the Sporting News wrote.

Reuter projected the Jaguars trading up to No. 15 with the New England Patriots to select Virginia Tech offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw.

"In a draft without a lot of pure left tackle prospects, the Jaguars swap ones with New England and give up fourth- and fifth-round picks (they have an extra in each round due to trades) to grab a stable force on the blind side," Reuter wrote.

Other selections at No. 25: Notre Dame linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Southern California interior offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker, South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn and Clemson offensive tackle Jackson Carman.

"The Jaguars go with Lawrence's collegiate left tackle to protect him in the pros," Trapasso wrote of Carman, with Zierlein writing of Horn: "He's best in press coverage, but has the eye discipline and athleticism to play in any scheme."
