JACKSONVILLE – The popular options remain popular at No. 25.
We'll focus there again this week when discussing how analysts feel about the Jaguars in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Because how they feel about the No. 1 selection remains very obvious and repetitive:
Trevor Lawrence, Trevor Lawrence, Trevor Lawrence.
Lawrence, a quarterback from Clemson University generally considered the draft's best prospect, again was a unanimous projection to the Jaguars at No. 1 overall in this week's jaguars.com mock draft tracker. All 10 analysts in this week's tracker projected him there.
A few of their thoughts:
*Pete Prisco, CBS Sports: "The talk that he isn't the best quarterback in this class is laughable. He's a clear No. 1. The Jaguars should have him signed before the draft."
*AJ Schulte, Pro Football Network: "The Jaguars are drafting Trevor Lawrence. End of discussion. All of their moves from this point forward are intending to build around him."
*Chris Trapasso, CBS Sports: "The draft starts at pick No. 2. The Urban Meyer era begins with Lawrence at No. 1 overall."
*Seth Galina, Pro Football Focus: "I'm not here to entertain the idea that the Jaguars have someone rated higher than Lawrence on their boards — especially not [Brigham Young quarterback] Zach Wilson."
*Ryan Wilson, CBS Sports: "The Jags are taking Trevor Lawrence. The end."
The Jaguars' selection at No. 25 overall, obtained from the Los Angeles Rams in the 2019 trade for cornerback Jalen Ramsey, continued to be a far less consensus selection for analysts – though Alabama defensive tackle Christian Barmore again was a popular projection there.
Four analysts – Prisco, Jordan Reid of The Draft Network, AJ Schulte of Pro Football Network and Josh Edwards of CBS Sports – projected Barmore at No. 25.
"Banking on limiting the low moments and getting the highlights to come out of him more frequently, Barmore can be deemed worthy of being a first-round selection," Reid wrote, with Schulte writing: "Jacksonville requires an overhaul along the interior of the defensive line; as a result, the Jaguars look for a juiced-up interior pass rusher in Christian Barmore."
Other projections for the Jaguars at No. 25 included Washington defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike, Florida wide receiver Kadarius Toney, Texas Christian safety Trevon Moehrig, Virginia Tech offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw and Notre Dame linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.
Barmore has been projected often to the Jaguars at No. 25 in recent weeks, as have Darrissaw, Toney and Moehrig.
"Onwuzurike opted out in '20 but didn't show any rust at the Senior Bowl," Wilson wrote, with Galina writing of Toney: "Finding a player who can get open quickly for Trevor Lawrence is of the utmost importance."
Trapasso called Darrisaw a "home-run" selection, and NFL Network's Cynthia Frelund wrote of Owusu-Koramoah, "No draft-eligible linebacker was faster (as measured by game speed) last season; also a plus: His blitzing burst was the third-best at the position."
Chad Reuter of the NFL Network projected Minnesota wide receiver Rashod Bateman to the Jaguars at No. 31 after a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs.
