JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars could shock many analysts come draft day.
They could do this by selecting a defensive player with the No. 7 overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, something few analysts are projecting less than two weeks out.
Jawaan Taylor, a right tackle from the University of Florida projected as one of the draft's top offensive linemen, remained the national analysts' selection of choice for the Jaguars at No. 7 overall. Five of nine analysts in this week's jaguars.com 2019 Mock Draft tracker 14.0 projected him to the Jaguars.
Offensive line remained the top projected position for the Jaguars at No. 7, with seven of the nine analysts projecting offensive line to the team.
"Taylor is a DNA match with how the Jaguars want to play; he's a physical player," NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah wrote in his third mock draft of the offseason.
Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports agreed.
"Doug Marrone and Co. in Jacksonville very well could be enamored with Taylor's physicality and run-blocking prowess along with steady play as a pass protector," Trapasso wrote.
Jonah Williams, an offensive tackle/guard from Alabama, was the selection of choice for the Jaguars at No. 7 by two analysts: Dan Kadar of SB Nation and Jenny Vrentas of Monday Morning Quarterback.
"Because of his consistency and versatility, he could be the first OL off the board," Vrentas wrote.
Will Brinson of CBS Sports projected Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson to the Jaguars.
"The Jags need to bolster their pass game weapons while also improving their run blocking and the big-time Iowa tight end does both," Brinson wrote.
Danny Kelly of the Ringer was the lone analyst projecting defense to the Jaguars this week. He predicted they will take Montez Sweat, an edge player from Mississippi State.
"The foundation of the Jaguars defense over the past few seasons has been its deep and talented defensive line," Kelly wrote. "But with the recent departures of Malik Jackson and Dante Fowler Jr., that unit needs reinforcements."
