'Movember' is on

Just as October is widely recognized as breast cancer awareness month, 'Movember' is an important cause that several Jaguars are supporting this month. It is a movement that is seeing some creative ways to raise awareness and money.

The Mo, slang for moustache, and November come together for Movember.  Movember is a challenge to men to grow a moustache for the entire month. The moustache becomes the equivalent of the breast cancer ribbon for men's health, the means by which awareness and funds are raised for cancers that affect men.

Men form groups and register themselves at movember.com where family, friends and the public log in to donate money for their favorite Movember team.

Bryan Schneider, an intern in the Jaguars athletic training department, decided to rally a group together to join his team in hopes of raising money for the LIVESTRONG foundation which donates money to prostate and testicular cancer research.

"You register yourself and your team," Schneider said. "Then you try to raise awareness and get people to donate to your team. That money goes to the LIVESTRONG foundation. There are prizes for teams and individuals that raise the most money, and the best looking mustache."

The Jaguars' Movember team has deemed itself the Caterpillar Lips. Their group includes staff members Schneider, Marco Zucconi, and Jeremy Pool, and Jaguars players Eben Britton, Brad Meester, Maurice Jones-Drew, Kirk Morrison, Kyle Bosworth, Larry Hart, Sean Considine, and Mike Caussin.

"We're trying to become the best team because there are other NFL teams doing it," Schneider said. "There are NHL and MLS teams doing it, the Yankees are doing it, Nick Swisher is heading that up, so we're trying to raise the most money. We need to step it up."

Jaguars fans are encouraged to donate to the Caterpillar Lips and help out in other Movember events as well. Eben Britton's mother, Abbie, is the owner of Omvelo (www.omvelo.com) at Jacksonville Beach, a cycling-centered training studio. She and Eben are hosting 'The Mustache Ride' on Saturday, November 20th, for which participants pay $20 to enjoy a party, dance and cycle ride all in one day. All the proceeds from the event will go to team Caterpillar Lips.
