O-Zone: Oh, Wonderful Day

JACKSONVILLE – Let's get to it …

Jon from Lakewood, NJ

If you look around the league you see the dominant teams: Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers. The Jags just do not look like that Super Bowl contender yet. What needs to be done and seen in order to get them there? Yes, playoff-bound they indeed seem destined, but I don't see beyond.

The Jaguars through six games of the 2026 regular season indeed have the feel of a playoff team – and you are correct that they do not yet look on the level of the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers. Those teams have a combined one loss this season while the Jaguars are among a slew of teams at 4-2. The Jaguars at times – in victories over the playoff-contending Cleveland Browns and the defending AFC Champion New England Patriots – have looked dominant. They otherwise split four close games and easily could have lost or won all those games. The good news is it doesn't matter if the Jaguars look like a Super Bowl contender on October 21. Plenty of teams will rise and fall into Super Bowl contender status between now and January, and I expect the Jaguars will be among those teams. What do they have to do to be Super Bowl contenders? Keep working to reduce penalties, keep working to get more efficient running, keep stopping the run well, keep working to get better pressure on opposing quarterbacks in meaningful moments, keep working to reduce explosive plays. Remember: The Jaguars were a different, better team after the 2025 bye than before. Most teams, even the best ones, change as the season progresses. If the Jaguars improve as they did a season ago, this has a chance to be a memorable season. Stay tuned.

Is it me, or does Travis Hunter in the red zone/goal line area really excel? THOSE two interceptions in that area are not a coincidence, and definitely an advantage for our JAGS!

Jaguars wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter has two end-zone interceptions in the last four games – one in a Week 3 victory over the New England Patriots and another in the fourth quarter of a loss to the Houston Texans this past Sunday. Both were exceptional plays and not a coincidence. His ability to make plays on the ball is his "superpower." It is impressive, as superpowers go.

John. I am watching all of these games every week courtesy of YouTube TV multi-view, which is very awesome by the way. The penalty "dilemma" is league wide. I do not understand what is going on. I have been watching this league for thirty years and I have never seen anything like it. Are you not the least bit curious? We have literally five times the number of NFL touchdowns called back versus the last two seasons. We are on a historic pace in accepted flags. Multiple times, I have four games on with four in yellow-flag situations simultaneously (not hyperbole). The crews have said over and over that teams have been "robbed," they didn't see it, that was a curious call, etc. I am not wearing a tinfoil hat or telling you there is a conspiracy the NFL doesn't want a small-market Jaguars team running the slate. I absolutely get that it is a markedly fast-paced and violent game with split-second decisions required. What am I missing? What is going on?

I don't know.

We need someone like a Nico Collins-type receiver. Parker Washington is not that. Brian Thomas Jr. can't catch a ball and the No. 12 who was supposed to change the game is more gimmicks than tread to anyone. But since we are the Jags, we will overpay everyone.

They should also sign Jerry Rice, Aaron Donald, Reggie White, Lawrence Taylor, John Hannah (look him up) and see if Boselli can give 'em a game or two. The Jaguars have a lot of good players in many shapes and sizes at a lot of different positions. They don't have all the good players. (Yet.)

O, I wish Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence could be a Moe and the offensive line a combination of Larry and Curly. In this scenario, Moe (Trevor) would address their mistakes by going down the line slapping faces and bopping heads.

What about when Lawrence makes a mistake? Would he slap and bob himself?

It used to not bother me that the Jags committed to playing games in the United Kingdon. I understood the economics. But after all this time playing over there, it seems to me that there is no homefield advantage for our home games played there. Once the Stadium of the Future is complete, it won't bother me a bit if the Jags never play a home game there again.

Both Jaguars Owner Shad Khan and President Mark Lamping expressed a preference this past weekend to play all home games in Jacksonville in 2028 – the first year of the Stadium of the Future. The Jaguars, like all teams, will have to give up home games to play internationally on a rotating basis moving forward. Whether the Jaguars have a yearly London commitment as they have in the past remains very much to be seen.

A small-market team with a reduced capacity stadium will not be allowed to host a playoff game. They attempted the same fix with the Philadelphia Eagles a week ago, even letting their coach "challenge" in the last two minutes), but a miracle ensued. They learned they have to go harder on the garbage penalties to keep us down. The Texans' only win prior was to the 1-5 Tennessee Titans. The refs gave them the game, and will continue to donate points to opposing teams until we are out of contention. Was that a hired stunt man to reduce the officiating crew? Or did he refuse to throw trash flags, and that was his only recourse? Something smells like the docks in Mayport ...

Stop. For your own sake.

Dr. O: Two guys that do not get enough credit as team players are wide receivers Jakobi Meyers and Josh Cameron. While they have great hands, they are demons blocking downfield. These two guys may not always make the headlines, but their effort is known by their teammates, I am sure. If they are not on the receiving end, they are clearing the way for their teammates

You are usually not going to play much – if at all – at wide receiver in Head Coach Liam Coen's offense if you are not a willing blocker. Meyers and Cameron will have no problem playing in Coen's offense.

Does the loss to the Texans count as a home loss (do we still have a six-game winning streak going at home in Jacksonville)?

It depends on how you tally such things. The Texans loss is a home loss because it was a Jaguars home game. It was not a loss in Jacksonville because it was not played in Jacksonville.

Howard from Homestead, FL

That's okay. The third time they play us, we will finally get them at home.

Howard's got jokes.

Don from Marshall, NC

I have been watching the NFL over 65 years and I have never seen so many calls on big plays and touchdowns called back before. These calls have severely changed the outcome of games. Teams at the 1-yard line suddenly get a penalty? Just never seen anything like it before. Suspicious! Go Jaguars!

When it comes to being tired of whatever is going on when it comes to penalties against the Jaguars this season, Don remains "all in."

Bradley from Death Valley, CA

I think the state of the Jags' franchise is at the highest level in team history and Liam Coen is arguably the biggest reason. I honestly would not trade him for any other NFL head coach and I learned a lot about this team, despite the loss). This is a very good team.

The Jaguars are 4-2 in first place in the AFC South. Of course they're good.

Yoav from St. Johns, FL

Four touchdowns called back in the last three games. That has to mean something.

It means penalties are making it harder for the Jaguars to score – and win – than otherwise would be the case. It means the Jaguars need to reduce the mistakes that have led to some of those penalties. In other instances, it means some calls that could have gone either way need to go another way.

Perhaps we can now lay to rest the drumbeat of the "no comments section" complaints? I will not hold my breath on the other mendacious panoply of fan-centric complaints, but one less topic of consternation is progress.

What's a "comments section?"
