O-Zone Podcast: Peter Schrager of Good Morning Football

Schrager

JACKSONVILLE – His eyes are on the Jaguars – as are the eyes of many around the NFL these days.

But when Peter Schrager looks at the Jaguars' immediate future, it's not any one element that stands out. Rather, it's a potential combination.

A very intriguing potential combination.

"It's a very interesting potential match of Urban Meyer and this really young team – and potentially the greatest quarterback to enter the NFL in the past decade," Schrager said.

Schrager, one of four co-hosts on the NFL Network's popular and influential Good Morning Football show, joined senior writer John Oehser on the O-Zone Podcast recently and discussed multiple topics – including the success of a show that has become must-watch television for fans, observers, players, coaches and personnel officials around the NFL.

"It's really part of our lives," Schrager said. "We all love the work and we love working with each other, so it's great. … It's pretty lucky."

Schrager also discussed in detail the Jaguars' 2021 offseason, which began in January with the hiring of Meyer as head coach and which many believe will include the selection of Clemson University quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft.

"By no means is it a slam dunk that Urban Meyer is going to have great success – and by no means was there a reaction around the league of, 'Ooh, watch out for the Jaguars because Urban Meyer is the head coach," Schrager said of Meyer, who won two national titles while the head coach at the University of Florida and another while the head coach at Ohio State University.

"I still think that NFL coaches have a lot of pride and they're like, 'Let's see how you do on this level.'''

Schrager also addressed the potential selection of Lawrence, who many consider the best quarterback prospect to enter the NFL in nearly a decade.

"I'm all in," Schrager said. "I'm usually a load of caution and skepticism on our show and I'm very often the wet blanket saying, 'Let's slow down before we go nuts over this guy.' …

"Trevor Lawrence is the outlier. He's awesome. He has shown us everything. He's physically gifted, smart, has dealt with all the pressure. He has played in huge games every year and delivered in all of them. I think he's a can't-miss prospect."
