Saturday primer: A healthy urgency

JACKSONVILLE – They're healthier than normal, and the goal is clear.

The Jaguars, after a winless start five games into the season with offensive skill players out of the lineup for a variety of reasons, will play the Tennessee Titans on Sunday in a game between two teams struggling for early-season momentum.

For the first time during the 2014 regular season, the Jaguars may have all of their receivers available, and if that doesn't get them back to full strength offensively, it moves them closer than they've been in a while.

That makes the Jaguars a relatively healthy team, and as the dawn of the season turns into mid-October, they're something else, too:

They're a team looking for a victory.

"At the end of the day, I don't think there's any guy in this locker room who's not pressing for a win," Jaguars cornerback Alan Ball said as the Jaguars (0-5) prepared to play the Titans (1-4) at LP Field in Nashville, Tennessee, Sunday at 1 p.m.

"We want to get that victory not only for ourselves, but for the coaching staff and for the organization."

The urgency is accompanied by a comparatively healthy roster, with wide receivers Cecil Shorts III and Marqise Lee each listed as probable on the team's final injury report of the week.

Shorts, who missed a loss to Pittsburgh last Sunday with a hamstring injury, practiced Thursday and Friday after missing Saturday. Lee, a rookie second-round draft choice, has been out the last three games with a hamstring injury but also worked full Thursday and Friday after being limited Wednesday.

If Shorts and Lee play, it will mark the first time this season the Jaguars have had all of their front-line, experienced receivers – Shorts, Lee, rookies Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson, Ace Sanders and Mike Brown – healthy.

Jaguars running back Toby Gerhart will miss Sunday's game with a foot/ankle issue that has hampered him since Week 1. He was ruled out Friday.

Head Coach Gus Bradley said Friday rookie Storm Johnson, Denard Robinson and Jordan Todman likely will split time at running back.

Charlie Whitehurst is expected to start at quarterback for the Titans. Quarterback Jake Locker, a starter in four of the Titans' five games, is questionable for the game with a thumb injury.

Whitehurst has completed 25 of 44 passes for 371 yards and three touchdowns with an interception in two games this season. He started two weeks ago in a loss to Indianapolis.
