JACKSONVILLE – The idea now is to do it again.
And if it won't be easy with a slew of defensive lineup changes, that doesn't change the Jaguars' immediate goal Sunday in the wake of their first victory of the 2014 regular season.
The objective now? Make it two.
"That's huge," Jaguars veteran offensive guard Zane Beadles said as the Jaguars (1-6) prepared to play the Miami Dolphins (3-3) at EverBank Field Sunday at 1 p.m. "That's what good teams do, is do it week in and week out. That's something we need to learn to do, and this is our first opportunity to do that."
The Jaguars, after holding the Cleveland Browns to 69 rushing yards on 30 carries in a 24-6 victory this past Sunday, will face the NFL's fourth-ranked running offense Sunday. It's an offense that runs differently than that of the Browns, with the Dolphins emphasizing quarterback Ryan Tannehill and the read option.
The Jaguars will face that scheme without middle linebacker Paul Posluszny, out for the season with a torn pectoral sustained against Cleveland. Veteran J.T. Thomas, the starter at Otto linebacker the past four weeks, will start in the middle for Posluszny.
Jaguars Head Coach Gus Bradley said the read-option "without a doubt" makes for a challenging week for any middle linebacker.
"He's really taken on the challenge not only responsibility-wise but also leadership in the huddle-wise," Bradley said of Thomas. "I think he feels a certain responsibility to fill that role too. It's kind of been cool how he's adjusted to it."
The Jaguars also on Sunday will be without defensive end Andre Branch, out for about six weeks with a groin tear. Ryan Davis is expected to play Branch's backup Leo defensive end role, with rookie Chris Smith – signed from the practice squad this week – also a possibility there.
Cornerback Dwayne Gratz also is an injury concern entering the weekend. He is expected to be a game-day decision with a hip issue.
If Gratz plays, he and Demetrius McCray will start at cornerback with starter Alan Ball out with a biceps injury. If Gratz can't play, Jeremy Harris will get his first NFL start opposite McCray.
