JACKSONVILLE – Cecil Shorts III won't play in the 2014 regular-season opener.

Shorts, a four-year veteran wide receiver, was ruled out with a hamstring issue. He had left practice Thursday with tightness in the area, and after being limited in practice Friday, he was ruled out of the game shortly before the team left for Philadelphia Saturday.

Shorts was listed as questionable on the Friday injury report.

The Jaguars will play the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2014 regular-season opener at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pa., Sunday at 1 p.m.

Shorts missed the first two preseason games this season with a hamstring injury, then returned to play 15 plays in Week 3 against Detroit. He played into the second quarter in the preseason finale, and said afterward he felt 100 percent and ready for the season.

Shorts has 121 receptions passes for 1,756 yards and 10 touchdowns over the past two seasons, missing the final two games in 2012 with a concussion then being hampered by a groin injury much of last season before missing the final three regular season games.

Shorts is by far the Jaguars' most-experienced wide receiver, with second-year veteran Mike Brown the only other receiver with NFL experience. Rookies Allen Hurns, Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee are expected to play significant plays Sunday, with Lee listed as the starter.
