"The feeling around the Jaguars throughout training camp and preseason was the additions without question would improve a defense that ranked 28thin the NFL a season ago, and against the Titans, the additions made a major mark."  jaguars.com

"The Jaguars feature a run-heavy offense that&39;s rushed for at least 100 yards in 89 of the 129 games Jack Del Rio has coached in Jacksonville. They had the league&39;s third-best rushing offense in 2010 and could have been better had Jones-Drew been healthy." The Times-Union

"McCown knows he&39;s a caretaker for the unprepared Gabbert, but he also knows he&39;s auditioning for 31 other teams at the same time. There are worse things in life than being a career NFL backup."CNNSI.com

Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com gives his updated power rankings.

Here's power rankings from ESPN.com.

And from NFL.com

"When Tebow entered the draft, scouts insisted he needed, one, maybe two, possibly three years of patient handling before stepping into a huddle. And even then, they weren&39;t sure he could make it. Well, this just in: the Broncos are listening. They pushed him back so he&39;s not in line as the next quarterback. They&39;re trying to do for Tebow what McDaniels should have done a year ago.  Which is to be patient."  CBSSports.com

"Some took that fresh start and ran with it, and some, not so much. Here&39;s a Week 1 scorecard of those players who began the process of relaunching their careers, and those who were seen wearing a new uniform but producing the same old disappointing result."  CNNSI.com

Mario Williams is excelling in his new role with the Texans.  USA Today.

Scouting the opponent

"Jetsquarterback Mark Sanchez was sacked four times and hit six in Sunday night&39;s 27-24 win against the Dallas Cowboys. After the game and on Monday, the Jets quarterback said he underwent precautionary tests, but he does not have a concussion."  The Star-Ledger

"Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew returns to the Meadowlands to face the Jets for the first time since he irritated legions of fantasy football players two years ago."  New York Daily News

"The Jets will be wearing their throwback Titans uniforms on Sunday vs. the Jaguars." New York Daily News

"He's an amazing little guy," coach Rex Ryan said, "and the more he plays — he just looks short to me — he doesn't look small anymore. He did a great job."   New York Post

"As he spoke at Jets headquarters Monday afternoon, Ryan was not in a state of disbelief — far from it, actually. Yet he did seem a bit stunned, stunned because the Jets’ 27-24 victory, however heart-pounding and stomach-churning as their wins often are, resembled none of the first 24 he celebrated as their coach."  The New York Times

"The pass-heavy attack was a departure from a typical Rex Ryan offensive approach, and the coach gave a reason for his change in philosophy."  NewYorkJets.com

Transcript of Rex Ryan's press conference on Monday.  NewYorkJets.com

"For openers, the New York Jetstook a walk on the wild side, letting Mark Sanchezthrow the ball like never before. Sometimes you have to let &39;er rip, and this was one of those times. But they can&39;t live that way, and they know it."  ESPNNewYork.com

The last word

"Brock's actually a pretty good football player. He's made some of the more amazing catches over the last couple years in practice and in the games when he's been out there. So, he's got good hands. He can catch it. We just didn't execute that play very well."
