"In all his 16 years as an NFL punter, Matt Turk had never experienced anything like what happened Sunday in Carolina when four inches of rain fell on the stadium in less than an hour." The Times-Union

"Special teams coach Russ Purnell said he doesn't want to jinx kicker Josh Scobee by noting he has made all five of his field goal attempts. Last year, Scobee made his first 14 tries, then slumped and made eight of his last 14." The Times-Union

John Oehser of jaguars.com gives his seven weekly thoughts on the team.

"I'm not 'two catches, one catch'—I want to win," Lewis said. "It's always been that way. I just want to win. If I have 10 catches and two touchdowns and we lose, what are we talking about? 'Well, even though you had 10 catches, you guys lost – how do you feel about that?' I feel horrible because we lost."  jaguars.com

Scouting the opponent

"In all the hoopla surrounding running back Mark Ingram, the former Heisman Trophy winner New Orleans also drafted in the first round, it is sometimes forgotten that Jordan, a smart, very athletic product of California, was the franchise's top choice." The Times-Picayune

"The injury list remains long but there was some good news for the Saints on Thursday as they continue preparations for their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday."  The Times-Picayune

Read what Sean Payton had to say at his Thursday press conference.  NewOrleansSaints.com

"On Sunday, the Saints will play in Jacksonville's EverBank Field for the first time since that day, when kicker John Carney, who nailed 628 of 638 extra-point attempts in a sparkling 24-year NFL career, missed one with no time left to hand the Jaguars a 20-19 win."  Baton Rouge Advocate

Schedule

The Jaguars will hold their final practice of the week today before meetings and a short walkthrough on Saturday.

The last word

"We didn't play very well up at the Jets. We've had a couple of bright spots. We've had a couple nice kickoff returns. We had a real good punt return at the Tennessee game. We need to block better on our punt return game. We need to give Cecil Shorts a few more opportunities that he can make a move in the open field and not have a tackler right there in his face. We've been kind of middle of the road. A good play here, a bad play here, okay play here. We need to have more of a positive impact."
