(July 17)—The Jaguars have signed third-round draft choice Mike Walker to a contract, leaving first-round pick Reggie Nelson, second-rounder Justin Durant and fifth-rounder Derek Landri as the only members of the Jaguars draft class not under contract.
"We work hard and it's just a matter of working and talking. I'd like to say we're confident we'll get everyone done (for the start of training camp); I think we will," Jaguars salary cap boss and lead contract negotiator Paul Vance told jaguars.com.
Walker caught 90 passes at Central Florida last season, despite having begun the season less than fully recovered from knee reconstruction nine months earlier. He hit his stride in the second half of last season and then surprised everyone at the Indianapolis scouting combine this past winter by running a 4.35 40.
The 6-2, 208-pound wide receiver was impressive during spring drills and is expected to use this training camp to compete for significant playing time, possibly even a starting job.
At Central Florida last season, Walker's 90 catches gained 1,178 yards receiving and included seven touchdowns. He scored nine touchdowns as a junior.
