JACKSONVILLE – Chad Henne will start at quarterback Thursday.

Henne, the Jaguars' backup quarterback when training camp began, will start when the Jaguars face the Carolina Panthers at EverBank Field Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Week 3 of the 2017 preseason.

Blake Bortles, the starter when camp began, also is expected to get repetitions with the first-team offense, with the two splitting repetitions relatively evenly.

Jaguars Head Coach Doug Marrone informed Henne and Blake Bortles of the plan on Wednesday, and the team confirmed it Wednesday evening.

Bortles, the Jaguars' starter since Week 4 of the 2014 season, started the first two 2017 preseason games and played four series with the starters in a Week 2 preseason loss to Tampa Bay last Thursday.

Henne, who started 22 games for the Jaguars from 2012-2014 and who has been Bortles' backup since 2014, played two series with the starters against Tampa Bay.
