The Jaguars return to action following their bye week to host the Houston Texans tomorrow in the last of their three home division games. Both teams are only one game out of first place in the AFC South at 4-4. The Jaguars are winners of three of their last five games, and are looking to win two of their first three division games for the third consecutive year.

This is the 17th meeting between the Jaguars and Texans with the series tied, 8-8.  The Jaguars have won two of the last three games including a sweep of the Texans in 2009, and are winners of three straight against the Texans at home.

Not so close

Only four of the 16 games between the Jaguars and Texans have been decided by three points or less.  The average margin of victory in the series is 11.3 points.

Putting up the points

The Jaguars averaged 27.7 points in the last six games against the Texans including three games with 30-plus points. The Jaguars have scored 20 touchdowns including 10 touchdowns passing and only one interception for a 102.2 passer rating in the six games.

Smith moving up the charts

Jaguars linebacker Daryl Smith is not one to talk about individual achievements, but his career totals are making that hard to do.  Smith will play in his 101st game as a Jaguar tomorrow and he needs just one tackle to move into second place in franchise history for career tackles.

Smith enters the Texans game with 837 tackles, tied for second with Mike Peterson, and he is 22 tackles away from setting the franchise career mark which is owned by Donovin Darius (858).  Darius played in 115 games from 1998 to 2006.

"His instincts and football knowledge are off the charts," Jaguars linebacker Kirk Morrison said of Smith. "He&39;s a guy who knows the game and has been a consistent player for a long time. He has a quiet demeanor; that&39;s just who he is. If you know Daryl, he&39;s a guy that just gets the job done and doesn&39;t say too much. That&39;s the kind of guy you want on your team."

Garrard looking to continue strong play

David Garrard has played in nine games against the Texans with seven starts and he owns a 5-2 record.  He has 15 completions of 25-plus yards in his seven starts including seven in the last three meetings. Since Garrard became the starter in 2007, the Jaguars have won seven division games and Garrard has thrown for 10 touchdowns and only one interception for a 104.2 rating in those wins.

Jones-Drew enjoys division play

Maurice Jones-Drew has scored 26 touchdowns (22 rushing, 3 receiving, 1 return) in 25 career division games. Nine of his 14 career 100-yard rushing games have come in division play including three in the last five games.

Jones-Drew has played in seven games against the Texans since entering the NFL in 2006, and he has recorded seven rushing touchdowns, eight rushes of 10-plus yards and two 100-yard rushing games.

The Jaguars have posted a 10-16 division record since Jones-Drew joined the franchise in 2006. In the 10 wins, Jones-Drew has scored 11 rushing touchdowns, posted six 100-yard rushing games and averaged 90 yards on the ground.

Since becoming the full-time starter in 2009, Jones-Drew has averaged 94.4 rushing yards in eight division games with nine rushing touchdowns and four 100-yard rushing games.

Jaguars 1-1 in AFC South

The Jaguars are 1-1 in the AFC South with four games remaining in the second half of the season including three on the road. The Jaguars started off 2010 AFC South play with a 31-28 win against Indianapolis in week four thanks to a 59-yard game-winning field goal by Josh Scobee. The Jaguars fell 30-3 to Tennessee in week six.

What to look for tomorrow

  • David Garrard enters the game with 13 touchdown passes through eight games.  He needs three touchdowns through the air for the second-most in a season for his career (18, 2007). The single season team record is 20 touchdown passes by Mark Brunell in 1998 and 2000.
  • Josh Scobee enters the game with a streak of 13 consecutive made field goals.  He ranks third in franchise history with 15 consecutive field goals from 10/1/06 through 11/26/06.
  • Maurice Jones-Drew needs one reception to extend his streak to 61 consecutive games with a catch, the third-longest streak in team history.
  • Mike Thomas leads the team with 33 receptions for 387 yards.  He is 67 yards from setting a career-high, surpassing his 453 yards as a rookie.
  • Marcedes Lewis leads the team with a career-high seven touchdown receptions and has 14 for his career.  He needs one touchdown to tie for the second-most in a season in team history and tie for the fourth-most career touchdowns in team history.  His seven touchdowns through eight games match his career total entering this season.

Florida connections on Texans roster

The Texans have six players with ties to Florida: tackle Rashad Butler (West Palm Beach, Dwyer High, Univ. of Miami), wide receiver Andre Johnson (Miami, Miami Senior High, Univ. of Miami), defensive tackle Damione Lewis (Univ. of Miami), center Chris Myers (Miami, Palmetto High, Univ. of Miami), linebacker Darryl Sharpton (Coral Gables, Coral Gables High, Univ. of Miami) and offensive tackle Eric Winston (Univ. of Miami).

Texans wide receivers coach Larry Kirksey served in the same capacity for the Jaguars in 2003 and spent five seasons (1984-88) as running backs coach at Florida. Strength and conditioning coach Cedric Smith was a fullback at Florida from 1986-89, paving the way for RB Emmitt Smith.  Texans Founder, chairman and CEO Bob McNair was born in Tampa.

Getting to know Adam Terry

Offensive tackle Adam Terry is with his third team in the last two seasons after signing with the Jaguars earlier this week.  The former second-round pick of Baltimore in 2005 is trying to revitalize his career after being hampered by injuries.

Terry has played in 50 career games with 18 starts at right tackle, with all of his starts coming with the Ravens from 2005-08.   Terry sat down with jaguars.com this week to talk about his new team, his health and what he hopes to bring to the team.

What are you looking to achieve?

Terry:"Active roster and then we'll see if I can work my way into the swing tackle, maybe even better than that. Getting out there, just being part of the team, learning the offense, it's kind of hectic. But it's something that I'm ready for and something I'm excited about."

You have been with several different teams in your career.  How difficult is it to pick up the offense?

Terry: "It's tough. I mean there's a lot of different terminology, but I played in this system my first couple of years in the league so I have a little background. Not to say I know the offense completely or anything like that, but I have a little background so that helps out quite a bit."

How do you feel physically?

Terry:"It's the best I've felt in three years. I had the microfracture (surgery) last season, sat out the whole year. Then had the opportunity to meet up with San Diego and get some time out there. Now it's just kind of a natural progression to see if I can get further."

It has to be tough dealing with the injuries you have had over the years.

Terry:"It's wear and tear but mentally it's something that you have to take in stride. If I didn't take it in stride I wouldn't be standing here today, I'd probably be home flipping channels on the TV. Like I said, I'm excited about it, it's an opportunity and I'm just here to capitalize on it."

Did you know?

Linebacker Justin Durant has played in five games this season and totaled 59 tackles and a team-high seven tackles for loss including a career-high 17 stops at Dallas in week eight.  He missed three games with an ankle injury.

Television coverage

The game will be broadcast regionally on CBS, locally on WTEV CBS47 (Ch. 6 cable). Gus Johnson will handle play-by-play duties with Steve Tasker providing analysis. **
