Jaguars re-sign offensive lineman Josh Wells

The Jacksonville Jaguars have re-signed third-year OL Josh Wells, the club announced today.

"I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity to return to Jacksonville, the organization that gave me my first shot in the NFL in 2014," said Wells. "We as players feel that we're in the process of building something special and I knew that I wanted to be a part of it. I've had the opportunity to work closely with Coach Marrone for the past two seasons and he's been vital in my development as an offensive lineman, but also as a professional in this league. I look forward to celebrating with my wife, Morgan, our families and all of my teammates, and getting back to work this offseason to become the best player that I can be."

Wells, 6-6, 306, has appeared in 17 career games at OL and on special teams for the Jaguars after originally signing with the club as a rookie free agent on May 14, 2014. In 2016, Wells spent the first 11 weeks of the 2016 season on the team's injured reserve list (thumb) before being activated and appearing in the team's final five games of the year. Wells spent the 2015 season on injured reserve with a thumb injury. After signing with the Jaguars in 2014, Wells was one of three undrafted rookies to make the opening day roster, joining OL Tyler Shatley and WR Allen Hurns. Wells appeared in a career-high 12 games as a rookie, primarily on special teams.

Wells, 26, was a three-year letterman at James Madison University and started all 12 games as a senior in 2013 while serving as a team captain. He was a two-time second-team All-CAA selection at OL, and also appeared at TE and DL. Wells majored in sports management. Wells, a four-year letterman and QB at Hanover (Mechanicsville, Va.) High School, threw for more than 4,000 yards and 28 TDs while rushing for 900 yards and five TDs. Wells can be found on Twitter at @J_Wells72.
