JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed third-year RB Tyler Gaffney, the club announced today. A roster spot was created when OL Branden Albert was designated as exempt/left squad.

Gaffney, 6-0, 220, was originally drafted by Carolina in the sixth round (204th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. After signing with New England, Gaffney spent the 2014 on the team's reserve/injured list after sustaining a knee injury in training camp. In 2015, Gaffney was again placed on New England's reserve/injured list for the season. On Sept. 3, 2016, Gaffney was waived/injured by the Patriots, but was released from the team via injury settlement on Sept. 9. He was then re-signed to New England's practice squad and promoted to their active roster on Oct. 29. On Feb. 7, 2017, Gaffney signed a futures contract with New England, but was released by the Patriots on March 20. Gaffney has been a part of two Super Bowl championship teams with New England in Super Bowl XLIX and Super Bowl LI.

Gaffney attended Stanford University and appeared in 49 games with 14 starts, totaling 2,500 yards and 33 TDs on 486 carries. As a senior in 2013, Gaffney started all 14 games in 2013, finishing with 330 rushes for 1,709 yards and 21 rushing TDs. Gaffney, who was named a USA Today second-team All-America selection and a second-team All-Pac 12 honors as a senior, also received MVP honors following Stanford's victory in the Pac-12 Championship game.

Gaffney also played three seasons of college baseball as an outfielder at Stanford. He batted .300 and hit eight home runs as a Cardinal before being drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 24th round of the 2012 MLB Draft. Gaffney played 38 games for the State College Spikes, the former Single-A Affiliate for the Pirates and hit for a .297 average before returning to Stanford for his senior season in 2013. Gaffney was born April 20, 1991 and attended Cathedral Catholic H.S. in San Diego, Calif., where he rushed for 5,547 yards with 99 total TDs during his high school tenure.

The Jaguars now have 90 players on their active roster.
