O-Zone: Not good at all

JACKSONVILLE – Let's get to it …

Neil from Gilbert

I'm excited about the Jakobi Meyers trade. He seems like a receiver in the mold of former Jaguars wide receiver Christian Kirk – which I think Trevor really relies on. He could be a sure-handed, go-to guy when you absolutely need to convert on a third-and-6.

The Jaguars on Tuesday acquired eight-year veteran wide receiver Jakobi Meyers from the Las Vegas Raiders for a fourth- and a sixth-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, a move that came hours before the NFL's 2025 trade deadline. The trade for the Jaguars was very much one of necessity, with rookie wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter being placed on injured reserve with a knee injury last Friday – and with wide receivers Dyami Brown (concussion) and Brian Thomas Jr. (ankle) struggling while dealing with injuries. Meyers is a reliable veteran who caught 87 passes for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns for the Raiders last season. He is a quality route-runner, the type Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence indeed can trust. That matters to all quarterbacks – and historically, it has mattered to Lawrence a great deal. This could end up mattering a lot.

TRADE MACHINE!!!!!

The vast majority of trade rumors, trade speculation and trade questions indeed are part of the TRADE MACHINE!!!! Then there is the day of the NFL trade deadline.

Brandon from Arkansas

The Eagles have the Tush Push, Brotherly Shove or whatever you want to call it for short yardage and goal-line situations. I think it's time we come up with a name for the play where Trevor is sticking the ball over the goal line or line to gain. I'm thinking the Trev Stretch. Think it will catch on?

How about, "Stop Doing That Or I Slap Your Hand, Son?"

Aaron from White Hall, AR

Is the Jakob Meyers trade about "if you help us we will re-sign you" or "let's trade a couple of picks and if it works out, he leaves and we will probably get a third-round compensatory pick?"

The contract of Jakobi Meyers – a.k.a., Jakob Meyers – expires after the season. If he shows he's still playing at a productive level in the final nine games of the season, he absolutely seems like the sort of player who could fit in with this team and this receiving corps.

Can Trevor quit throwing interceptions?

Entirely? Of course not. Somewhat? Sure.

Brian from Round Rock, TX

Junior is running well. Will he get an extension? By junior, I mean the one that can run – not the one that can't catch.

Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. is having a very good season – and has impressed this new Jaguars regime since shortly after the offseason program began. He has been professional and productive – a model player, essentially. The rookie contract Etienne signed after the Jaguars selected him No. 25 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft expires after the season. Before this season, I and many others would have predicted he would have hit unrestricted free agency next offseason. His performance through the first eight games of the season may be changing that prediction. He is an integral part of the offense – enough so that it wouldn't surprise me if he returns next season. If not on a contract extension, perhaps on the franchise tag.

The week feels better after a Jags win, no matter what it looks like. With the wrist injury, ejection and disappointing play, what can the team do to get Jaguars defensive back Travon Walker back on to the elite player trajectory?

Getting his wrist 100 percent and enabling him to play with two hands rather than one is the best first step. When he was using both hands early in the season, he wasn't remotely disappointing.

Kyle from Ingalls, IN, and the mean streets of Arlington

We need to stop trying to decide if this is a good team or a bad team. Sometimes this team just has to be "good enough." This team has a ton of injuries, but got it done Sunday. Three out of the next four weeks are games against teams on paper that they should be good enough to beat. That's 8-4 going into the first Indianapolis Colts game. Trevor is getting better in the clutch. Two out of the last four games Trevor did what he needed to do and is one of the reasons Kansas City is currently out of a playoff position, and the Jags are in one. This week is the Texans, a team that recently they have been "good enough "against."

Just win, baby.

Oh, Mighty 'O' / King Of All Funk, so that is five wins. One more than all of last season. So that's an improvement for sure. Maybe we can hope for the future?

I'm not sure how anyone watching the last 10 months couldn't feel optimistic about the Jaguars' future.

Is it rude to keep pulling up the conference standings in front of the Chiefs fans?

We talk a lot here in the O-Zone about the importance of being nice. Pulling up the AFC standings in front of Kansas City Chiefs fans right now isn't nice. Remember, too: The Chiefs have been really good for a long time and they're still good. Pulling up those standings not only isn't nice, it might not be all that wise.

Alan from Biggest Little City

Center sneak, with defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton at quarterback … then put the two biggest guys … a tush push on steroids … it'll work. I kid you not.

OK.

I started reading the O-Zone the day after former Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles had his injury at the start of the 2018 season and Minshew Mania was being birthed - I was like "who the ** is this guy" and hopped onto the website to find out. I stopped reading, more out of frustration, after the last game of the season last year. I had maintained a streak and then got behind and felt weird not picking up exactly where I left off. I'm going to start reading daily again today to check to see if you answer this question - what was Pete Prisco like in his interactions with Tom Coughlin to your knowledge? Was he the same as he is now? How did Tom actually receive him?

My knowledge of CBS NFL analyst Pete Prisco's interactions with Tom Coughlin during Coughlin's time with the Jaguars is about as reliable as anyone except … well, Coughlin and Prisco. I had a "front-row seat," working alongside Prisco covering the Jaguars for the Florida Times-Union from 1995 until Prisco's 2000 departure. What were the interactions between the two like? Tense, at times. Humorous, at other times. Memorable, many times. Coughlin didn't always love Prisco's questions. Prisco didn't always love Coughlin's answers. But there was respect there from both sides, and that respect in both cases was warranted.

People burning jerseys make me giggle. Here's to never hiring another "aw shucks" head coach again for the rest of this franchise. The passion from the top has been missing for so long and I hope we never accept less than this again.

Winning is cool. Fans like it.

Timothy from Mayport, FL

What are the chances of the Jags running with a fullback?

I don't expect the Jaguars to reshape their offense and start using a true fullback. I expect they will continue to utilize tight ends and offensive linemen in "big" packages that in different eras might have included a "true fullback."

Brian from Round Rock, TX

Why do athletes insist on using the suffix "Jr?" It's annoying. It's really annoying when they put it on their jersey. Should we go with Mr. And Esq, too? Or Sr. if you have a son with your name. Make it stop.

Speaking of making it stop.

Dan from Jax

With Trammel elevation to the active roster, does he qualify for league-minimum third-year player salary?

The Jaguars signed wide receiver Austin Trammell to the active roster last Friday, so yes … he qualifies for the league minimum for a third-year veteran.

EJ from Jacksonville

Credit to Trevor for a gutsy game, but overlooked in the thrill of victory was his leap for the touchdown. Looked every bit as close to a possible fumble as in the KC game. Ball security!

Sometimes the bear eats you. Sometimes you eat the bear.

So just to be clear: I bought NFL Sunday Ticket, YouTube TV, ESPN+ and Disney+, but I can't watch Monday Night Football? Is that correct?

I don't know all the rules about all the broadcast rights involving the NFL, ESPN and Monday Night Football. I know I have YouTube TV and I can't watch ESPN on it and that's a load of …
