O-Zone: Turn on the lights

JACKSONVILLE – Let's get to it …

John from Jax

Hi, KOAGF. This game was eerily familiar with being in the middle of "A Christmas Carol." The Titans resembled the ghost of Jaguars past, the Jaguars represented the ghost of Jaguars present and now we watch for the ghost of Jaguars future (maybe a Super Bowl in the next 2-3 years?)

I don't know if the Jaguars have reached Dickensian level, but I do know they're a good, improving team. They showed this yet again with a 25-3 victory over the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday. The victory moved the Jaguars (8-4) into a first-place tie with the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC South, with the Jaguars officially leading because of a better record in common games. The Colts and Jaguars will play at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville Sunday with sole possession of first place in the division at stake. As for Sunday's victory over the Titans … yes, it came over a struggling team. And the Titans didn't play as well Sunday as they had in their last three games, when they pushed good teams such as the Los Angeles Chargers, Houston Texans and Seattle Seahawks hard before losing. But credit must go to the Jaguars for focusing on Sunday's task at hand and accomplishing that task. That's unsurprising at this point because the Jaguars are establishing an identity as a mentally and physically tough team in Year 1 of a new regime. That's what this team is through 12 games and that is the foundation being built. I expect the Jaguars to improve while they build around that identity and on that foundation in the coming seasons. This team is doing things right. We're seeing results. We'll see what level of success that brings.

David from Broward County

John, solid W against a division rival on the road. The continual strength of this roster, specifically the depth performance, is amazing. It obviously speaks to the job by the general manager and staff, the head coach and staff and the backups themselves. I keep waiting for the next injury to be too much for this team, yet it hasn't been. Next man up is huge for this team. Losing the long snapper and nose tackle DaVon Hamilton coming in as backup effectively takes him out of the defensive line rotation – already two starters down. This is next level stuff, O-Man.

A great man once said, "The Jaguars are a good, improving team." That great man said some more stuff. Something he might have said but didn't was the Jaguars have done a remarkable job this season playing through injuries and adjusting to difficult situations in "real time." This team is still beat up in the secondary. And the defensive line. And the offensive line. And at receiver. And still it is finding a way to win. I don't know if it's "next level," but it has been damned impressive.

Michael from Mean Streets of Arlington

You know there's no need for exciting games. I prefer boring games like this one.

The Jaguars are 8-4 and in first place in the AFC South. This is not boring.

Josh from the Top of the AFC South

Love the win. Hate the Titans. Thirteen penalties is pretty brutal. Do you think at some point they will clean that up? We beat a bad team Sunday, but overcoming that against better teams will be tougher.

The Jaguars have a lot of victories over good teams this season – and yes, I expect the Jaguars will clean up penalties moving forward.

Alex from Apex

Jaguars punter Logan Cooke getting in Titans players faces is a top-tier Jag moment this season. When your punter is ready to throw hands, you know this team is tough!

When Logan Cooke has had enough, he has had enough.

Darwin from Cebu, Philippines

Hey, John. Remember when some criticized quarterback Trevor Lawrence that he throws "uncatchable" balls or that he throws so hard the receivers don't have a chance to catch it? After the acquisition of wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, the topnotch play of wide receiver Parker Washington, and timely contributions from wide receivers Tim Patrick and Austin Trammell, the issue has gone by the wayside. Hmmm, something tells me the critics were barking up the wrong tree. Where have the drops gone, John?

A premium has been placed on receivers who are in the right place consistently with reliable hands. That increasingly is reaping benefits.

Ken from Jacksonville

What happened to D. Brown? Coaches' decision not to play or is he hurt? Any details there?

Jaguars wide receiver Dyami Brown was inactive because of a coach's decision Sunday.

Ray from Newport News, VA

Wow, what a weekend. Great win by the now-first-place Jaguars. Guess what? Next week is another must-win and the most important game in franchise history. Houston is straight up a legit contender, and the Texans have the easiest remaining schedule on paper. But the Jags control their own destiny. Win and don't worry about the rest. Let's get the next win. Get healthy Jags.

Ray is already ready for some football.

Clayton from Shawnee, OK

That was a very convincing win, minus the penalties. I was really impressed by the defense's response after allowing the field goal during that first-quarter drive. Great O, is this team peaking at the right time?

The Jaguars' defense indeed was impressive Sunday – as has been the case for the last three games. The unit allowed a 70-yard drive on the game's first possession Sunday but held the Titans to a field goal. The Jaguars allowed just 35 yards the rest of the half and 118 the rest of the game, so … yes, a really good day for the defense. Are the Jaguars peaking at the right time? They're improving as a team, having won four of five games after a two-game losing streak. The right time is coming up. We'll see if they continue to improve.

JK from NY & Fernandina Beach, FL

John. During the postgame press conference, Liam Coen exuded a quiet intensity and resolve. Is that the mindset of the team as we head down the stretch? Go Jags!

Sure.

Mark from Crescent Beach, FL

The first series in the second half by TL was atrocious! Run the ball! I think we took less than 20 seconds off the clock! Just crazy? Tell me I'm wrong.

The Jaguars' first possession of the second half Sunday lasted 6:36 and ended with rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten's 2-yard touchdown run giving the Jaguars a 25-3 lead. Lawrence passed for 38 yards and ran for 12 on the drive. You were wrong.

Pete from Daytona Beach, FL

A well-needed and deserved victory. The only thing that would make this win even better is if Jeff Fisher was still their coach.

Okey doke.

Tony from The Land of Confusion

I've already mentioned this recently, but it feels like it bears repeating: We really need to throw a Top Backup Level bag at Van Lanen this offseason. His kind of plug-and-play competent versatility across the offensive line is unicorn-level rare.

I don't know what "Top Backup Level bag" means. I'm really cool, but it's possible I'm not that cool. Jaguars offensive lineman Cole Van Lanen has done a remarkable job this season playing at a high level at left guard, right guard, left tackle and right tackle. I don't know if Van Lanen is cool or not, but he's really important to this offensive line and offense.

Peter from Barnegat, NJ

O man, I think Logan Cooke is trying to be like Pat McAfee out there lol.

Goodness gracious.

JT from Palm Coast, FL

Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen has played like a man possessed over these last few weeks. This line has a damn good chance once it gets as healthy as it can be.

Hines-Allen indeed has played at a remarkably high level in the last three games. He had 2 sacks, 3 quarterback hits and 7 quarterback pressures Sunday. He has had at least one sack in 3 consecutive games and in 4 of the last 5. His 33 pressures since Week 9 are the most in the NFL. He's a big reason a Jaguars pass rush that was struggling early in the season is no longer struggling. Impressive stuff.

The real JT from Plano

Special teams anyone? If we just "fair caught" every kickoff and punt and told our guys not to move (block in the back) we'd improve starting field position an average of 20 yards a drive. Seriously, running out kickoffs the way we block is not helping. And please stop sending every receiver on 20-plus-yard routes each time we have third-and-7. Last on my Christmas wish list: Can we please stop taking the bait and getting egged into fights? Is a little discipline too much to ask? Love the eighth win, but against anyone else these things turn it into an "L." Oh yeah … one fer Trev, because he doesn't get enough love when he has a decent game.

The little lights are still not twinkling.
