Round 1: Chaisson the selection at No. 20

JACKSONVILLE – Call this a day for defense.

The Jaguars not only went that side of the ball with their first selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, they stayed there with their second Round 1 selection.

K'Lavon Chaisson, a defensive end/linebacker from Louisiana State University, late Thursday night became the Jaguars' second Round 1 selection of the '20 draft. The Jaguars selected him with the No. 20 overall selection, making the call around 10:35 Thursday.

The Jaguars selected Florida cornerback C.J. Henderson earlier in Round 1 with the No. 9 overall selection.

Chaisson (6-feet-3, 254 pounds), who forewent his senior year to enter the draft, served as team captain in 2019 and earned All-Southeastern Conference first-team honors. He was a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

He played in 26 games with 17 starts in college. He totaled 92 tackles, including 19.0 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks.

The Cincinnati Bengals selected 2019 Heisman Trophy winner and Louisiana State quarterback Joe Burrow No. 1 overall Thursday, with the Washington Redskins drafting Ohio State edge defender Chase Young No. 2, the Detroit Lions taking Ohio State cornerback Jeff Okudah No. 3, the New York Giants choosing Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas No. 4, the Miami Dolphins selecting Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa No. 5, the Los Angeles Chargers getting Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert No. 6, the Carolina Panthers selecting Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown No. 7 and the Arizona Cardinals drafting Clemson linebacker/safety Isaiah Simmons No. 8.

After the Jaguars took Henderson, the selections until No. 20 went as follows:

Alabama offensive tackle Jedrick Wills to the Cleveland Browns at No. 10, Louisville offensive tackle Mekhi Becton to the New York Jets at No.11, Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs III to the Las Vegas Raiders at No. 12, Iowa offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at No. 13, South Carolina defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw to the San Francisco 49ers at No. 14, Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy to the Denver Broncos at No. 15, Clemson cornerback A.J. Terrell to the Atlanta Falcons at No. 16, Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to the Dallas Cowboys at No. 17, Southern California left tackle Austin Jackson to the Miami Dolphins at No. 18 and Ohio State cornerback Damon Arnette to the Raiders at No. 19.
