Jaguars rookie RB Leonard Fournette ruled out against Indianapolis Colts Sunday; veteran Chris Ivory to start

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Jaguars will be without their leading rusher Sunday.

Rookie running back Leonard Fournette will not play against the Indianapolis Colts Sunday. The Jaguars announced Fournette among seven inactive players an hour and a half before kickoff of the 1 p.m. game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Chris Ivory will start in place of Fournette with Corey Grant and T.J. Yeldon also active at running back. It will be Yeldon’s first game active this season.

Fournette, the NFL’s second-leading rusher and a focal point of the Jaguars’ offense, sustained an ankle injury in the fourth quarter of a loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Jacksonville last Sunday.

He was medically cleared to return to the game but did not; the Jaguars were in their hurry-up offense following Fournette’s injury. Jaguars Head Coach Doug Marrone said throughout the week he was taking a wait-and-see approach with Fournette.

Fournette did not practice this past week, but said on Thursday he expected to be able to play.

Fournette has rushed for 596 yards and six touchdowns on130 carries this season, and has 15 receptions for 136 yards and a touchdown. He has accounted for 36.4 percent of the team’s offense this season.

Ivory has rushed for 162 yards on 40 carries and Grant has rushed for 97 yards on nine carries, including a 58-yard run with a fake punt.

Other Jaguars inactives Sunday: wide receiver Jaelen Strong, cornerback Lafayette Pitts, cornerback Jalen Myrick, center Brandon Linder, offensive lineman Josh Walker and offensive lineman William Poehls. Tyler Shatley will make a third consecutive start for Linder.

Wide receiver Marqise Lee and safety Tashaun Gipson, both of whom were listed as questionable on the final injury report of the week Friday, will be active.
