Coach Del Rio on Sixth Round Draft Picks

"Chad Owens is an electrifying returner, really exciting to watch. I don't know if any of our coaches or scouts ever saw him fair catch a ball. We're going to teach him that. He's very exciting. He had 22 touchdowns last year, 17 receiving, five on returns. He's another guy who had great times at the combine. He's not a 4.3-type guy but he's fast enough to score touchdowns. He's done a nice job. The other guy that we added was Pat Thomas a linebacker. We really felt like in our second day we wanted to add speed. You look at Gerald Sensabaugh and Alvin Pearman who play special teams and now you add a guy like Pat Thomas who is another guy that we believe adds team speed. He's a guy that was elected team captain at North Carolina State. Second-leading tackler the last two years for his team, a productive run and hit guy. We're excited to add Pat to the team, we got one more pick, then we'll get into rookie free agency, then we'll call it a wrap."

(on Pat Thomas) "He's 6-1, 240 pounds, ran a 4.6 40-yard dash. He had 20 reps on the bench. He's been a productive guy, he's a run and hit guy. We had him in for an interview aside from the combine and he's anxious to be here."

(on how the draft has gone so far) "We're very pleased the way things have gone. Most teams think they do well. We work hard at the process and put our board together, then we select off of our board. We feel like we work and do a nice job putting it together and we feel like we were able to pull some good value off of that board."

(on what type of linebacker Thomas is) "We think that he has position flexibility which is one of the things that we like, we think he can play inside and outside. We'll get him in here and like what we do with our guys and see what he does best and go accordingly."

(on if Owens will be exclusively a returner) "His best chance to contribute for us is going to be as a returner. That's where we are most excited about him. Now he had 17 touchdown catches as a receiver means he is no slouch, but we're looking at him as a return guy. He's returned both kicks and punts. The more he played offensively, the more he concentrated on punt returning."

(on Owens) "He was a very good interview. This is a great kid. You'll be very impressed with him when he comes in the door. Pearman, Owens and some other guys will be very impressive when they come in here on Friday."

(on adding two more wide receivers in the draft to an already competitive group) "We like the group we have and we like the guys we've added to the group. It's going to be ultra-competitive. We're going to score more points this year. Part of that is making that position more competitive, and part of that is some of the changes we've made within the staff and part of that is Byron (Leftwich) progressing. We will be more efficient offensively and we will score more points this year."
