JACKSONVILLE – Continuity is good. It's not everything.
Grant Udinski is entering his second season as the Jaguars' offensive coordinator – and while he sees many positives in such experience, he's not overemphasizing the good. He's also not assuming it guarantees success.
It's Year 2, with a Year 1 feel.
"There is absolutely an element of starting from scratch," Udinski said.
Udinski joined senior writer John Oehser for this week's 2026 offseason O-Zone Podcast – and as has been common around the Jaguars in recent months, a major topic was moving forward in the second season under Head Coach Liam Coen.
While continuity is a positive, Udinski said it's important not to rely on it too heavily – and he spoke recently of approaching the 2026 season "with a beginner mindset."
"We're going to attack this thing with the same urgency and ferocity that we did last year when we didn't know anything," he said. "The foundation we laid last year will help moving forward, but you try every day not to rely on muscle memory or fall for the curse of knowledge and just take things for granted and assume that just because we did something last year we can show up and do it again this year."
Added Udinski, "I have to have the same thing in the coordinator position – to constantly look to continue to grow. We can't rest on the foundation we laid last year."

Udinksi also discussed quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who threw 29 touchdowns with 12 interceptions last season – including 15 touchdowns with one interception in the last six games.
"What was so impressive was he continued to work to improve what he could every single day," Udinski said. "He showed up for the entire season, whether we were struggling early or whether we were having success late.
"He was still working to improve the same way, and he was able to do that while things around him were fluctuating from a performance level."
The Jaguars' 2026 offseason program is ongoing at the Miller Electric Center, with organized team activities – the on-field, team-oriented phase of the voluntary offseason program – scheduled to begin May 26.
"We have guys who wake up and strive for that level of greatness," Udinski said. "The nice thing about the group of guys we have on the coaching staff and in the locker room is that's who we are. That's who these guys are every day. Winning or losing, you're going to have that same urgency.
"They want to embody that level of fast and things Liam talks about. There's an understanding that last year is last year and we're focused on the now."
