Jags sign Williams

The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed offensive tackle Sammy Williams to a contract. He spent last season with the San Diego Chargers.

Williams, 28, is an six-year veteran and former sixth-round draft choice of the Baltimore Ravens. He has played in 30 games, making 14 starts. Last season, Williams signed with the Chargers as a free agent and played in 12 games, including seven starts at right and left tackle. The 6-5, 301-pound Williams spent his first four seasons in Baltimore and played in two games for Kansas City in 1999.

Williams spent the 2001 offseason in NFL Europe playing for the Berlin Thunder, where he started eight games for the league's second-ranked offensive unit. He was the 164th overall choice in the 1998 draft out of Oklahoma, where he earned second-team All-Conference honors.

The Jaguars' roster is now at 86 players.
