Jaguars activate John Chick from practice squad; add Tom McCarthy to practice squad

The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed first-year defensive end John Chick to the active roster from the practice squad and signed rookie defensive lineman Tom McCarthy to the practice squad.  The Jaguars' roster now stands at 53 players.

Chick, 6-3, 248, spent the 2010 season on the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad and was waived on Sept. 3, 2011.  The 28-year old played three seasons (2007-09) in the Canadian Football League for the Saskatchewan RoughRiders where he totaled 68 tackles, 19 sacks, six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.  He was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2009.  He was originally signed as a rookie free agent by Houston in 2006. 

A native of Gillette, Wyoming, Chick was a four-year starter at Utah State where he finished his career with 39.5 tackles for loss and 23.5 sacks.   He will wear jersey number 97. 

McCarthy spent the preseason with the Atlanta Falcons after signing as a rookie free agent from Yale.  His career totals included 93 tackles, 11 sacks and 21 tackles for loss.  A native of Chester, New Jersey, he attended Delbarton School where he lettered in football and baseball.
