Jaguars add punter

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed free agent punter Eddie Johnson to a contract today and waived first-year free agent punter David Brader.

Johnson, 24, was signed by the New York Giants on Jan. 20 but was waived March 24. The 6-3, 238-pounder did not play in the NFL last season. In his rookie season in 2003 with Minnesota, he punted 56 times with a 39.1-yard average with 12 punts inside the 20. The Newport Beach, Calif. native was originally a sixth round draft choice of the Vikings in 2003 out of Idaho State. Johnson will wear jersey No. 3.

Brader, 27, had attended the Jaguars mini-camp as a workout player before signing on May 11 . The 6-3, 235-pound punter attended Southwest Missouri State.

The addition of Johnson gives the Jaguars 88 players on their roster. All are under contract except for this year's first seven draft picks.
