The Jaguars and New Orleans Saints held two practice sessions at Ferrell Fields today.
"It was a good practice. It was good work. It's excellent work for us," said Jaguars head coach Tom Coughlin following the morning practice.
With two teams and nearly 170 players spread over two fields, Coughlin said, "At some point I'll see parts of every drill. On a day like this, I'm trying to make sure the mechanics are right everywhere - make sure people are in the right place, make sure the drills are being run properly. But, after that, I'm watching certain individuals looking to see who makes a play, who doesn't make a play."
The Jaguars' offensive line has been hit by injuries, but Coughlin said the practice sessions gave him a good opportunity to watch some of the younger players. "It's great exposure for this offensive line. We're working; we're communicating. It was good for a guy like (rookie guard Brad) Meester. It was his first opportunity to go against somebody else. He made a couple of mistakes and knew exactly what he had done. It's the kind of work we needed and we wanted. It was a good solid hard practice, and that's a plus."
Jaguars LB Brant Boyer (ankle) and rookie OT Mark Baniewicz (knee) suffered injuries in the morning practice and were held out of the afternoon session.
The Jaguars will have only one practice on Wednesday, at 3:20 p.m. at Ferrell Fields, as they begin their preparations for Friday night's preseason opener at Carolina.
