JAGUARS BEGIN FIRST FULL WEEK OF TRAINING CAMP

The Jacksonville Jaguars began their first full week of training camp today with two practice sessions ‹ the fifth and sixth of the year ‹ on the Ferrell Practice Fields. The morning practice was conducted in full pads, while the afternoon session was in shoulder pads and helmets.

³We keep looking for an upgrade each day. Today our energy was good, but the execution is still not what it needs to be,² said head coach Tom Coughlin. ³We were still soft on the 9 on 7¹s. But we were adding fronts and complicated run schemes, and that added to it.²

Running back James Stewart practiced after missing Saturday¹s sessions because of gastritis. Offensive tackle Leon Searcy and wide receiver Terrence Warren sat out both practices because of strained hamstrings.

Practices will be held again at 8:40 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday at the Ferrell Practice Fields. There will be no morning practice on Wednesday; the team will take to the practice field at 3:20 p.m.

What a differENCE a year MAKES: Last year, on the second day of practice at their training camp in Stevens Point, Wis., the temperature reached 106 degrees. That day in Jacksonville, it was ³only² 91 degrees. This year, on the second day of practice (Saturday), the temperature in Jacksonville was again 91 degrees, while in Stevens Point it was 71.

³We want to use the heat as an ally,² said Coughlin. ³This is where we will play half of our games this year, so conditioning in Jacksonville will make us that much more ready to play when the games start.²
