JAGUARS BEGIN PREPARATIONS FOR PRESEASON OPENER

The Jaguars began preparations today for their preseason opener Sunday vs. the Carolina Panthers.

"You always want to win, but you also want to be in position to use good judgment," said head coach Tom Coughlin. "We want to look at a lot of players, and that takes precedence. Hopefully we can win while looking at a lot of players."

Cornerback Dave Thomas practiced in full pads for the first time in a week after being hampered by strained hamstrings. Linebacker Dana Cottrell also participated for his first practice since being signed by the team Wednesday evening.

The teams 81 players were back to two-a-day sessions on Ferrell Fields adjacent to ALLTEL Stadium. The day was marked by cloud cover, giving the players a break from normal temperatures. "They were excited that it was cooler," said Coughlin, "but this is our home and we want to use the heat to our advantage." The team practiced through a light rain in the afternoon.

The team will practice at 8:40 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. on Friday and have a walk-through on Saturday. The walk-through will be closed and there is no media availability on Saturday. Kickoff for the game against the Panthers is 3:00.
