JAGUARS CONTINUE PREPARATIONSFOR FRIDAY¹S GAME VS. GIANTS

The Jacksonville Jaguars held their final two practice sessions of the week today, with their preseason opener only two days away. The morning practice at the Ferrell Practice Fields was in shoulder pads and helmets, while the afternoon practice was conducted with helmets and no pads.

³We¹ve had more emphasis on the mental side rather than the physical,² said head coach Tom Coughlin. ³We concentrated on assignments, trying to get everybody ready against the Giants, and we had the scout teams representing the Giants on both offense and defense.²

The team will hold a closed walk-through session Thursday morning and a walk-through Thursday evening in the stadium.

Coughlin said that injuries suffered by defensive tackle Mike Thompson (contusion of his left shoulder) and defensive end Jeff Lageman (mild hyperextension of his left knee) on Wednesday were not very serious. Lageman participated in drills today. Rookie offensive tackle Jason Dukes (sprained left ankle) is the only player who continues to miss practice.

³To this point, we¹ve been fortunate,² Coughlin said. ³We¹ve had some nicks, but guys have been able to come back quickly.²

As for Friday¹s game, Coughlin said, ³We¹ll play as many as we can so we can gain experience in some spots and so players can compete in other spots. And the special teams players will have the opportunity to show what they can do.²
